A torsion damping device comprising guide rings, a damper plate, and a hub which is secured to a driven shaft for rotation of the latter therewith. The device includes a dynamic vibration damper attached to the hub, with this damper including a weight which is joined through a block of elastic material to a support. The invention concerns a control system of the kind employing a clutch release bearing which, in response to a control device is adapted to act axially in a positive manner, in one direction, on a clutch release diaphram controlling the clutch. In accordance with the invention, the clutch release which is a double-acting clutch release bearing, being adapted to act axially equally well in both directions in order to absorb excess torque transmitted through the clutch.

A clutch disk comprises an annular plane support member at the periphery of which are elastically deformable parts adapted to deform when the disk is subjected to axial compression. Two friction facing members are disposed one on each side of the support member and locally attached to the deformable parts. Thus the portion of the disk comprising the friction facing members is elastically compressible between an expanded inoperative configuration and a flattened operative configuration. The deformable parts are substantially plane in the inoperative configuration. The friction facing members have inside surfaces on which are bosses alternating with recesses and the friction facing members are attached to the deformable parts by means of these bosses. The bosses on each friction facing member are aligned with the recesses on the other member. Thus compressing the disk from its inoperative configuration to its operative configuration causes elastic deformation of the deformable parts by virtue of interpenetration of the bosses and the recesses in the axial direction. Each boss is stepped and the recesses are wider than the bosses, so that voids are provided between the edges of the recesses and the edges of the bosses whereby elastic deformation of the deformable parts occurs in at least two successive stages. In one stage the deformable parts first cover and envelope the bosses, and in the other these parts continue to cover the bosses but are able to bend further by virtue of the voids.

Clutch friction disk

A torsional damper device, such as a clutch disk for an automobile vehicle, comprises at least two coaxial parts adapted to rotate relative to one another and a bearing disposed radially between them. This bearing comprises two separate parts, one on each side of a diametral plane of the device. Each is locked axially to a respective one of the coaxial parts and provides axial bearing support for the other coaxial part.

A torsional damper device comprises at least two coaxial parts disposed to rotate relative to one another within defined limits of relative angular displacement. Circumferentially acting elastic means operative between these parts over at least part of this relative angular displacement resist same. A first coaxial part comprises a hub and an annular hub flange around the hub, constrained to rotate with the hub for one circumferential direction. A second coaxial part comprises at least one annular guide ring around the hub free to rotate relative to it in both circumferential directions. The device further comprises an annular hub counter-flange around the hub constrained to rotate with the hub for one circumferential direction. The hub flange and the hub counter-flange are each free to rotate relative to the hub in the circumferential direction opposite that in which it is constrained to rotate with it. The result is that for one circumferential direction the hub flange is free to rotate relative to the hub and the hub counter-flange is constrained to rotate with it, whereas for the opposite circumferential direction the hub flange is constrained to rotate with the hub and the hub counter-flange is free to rotate relative to it.

Torsional Damper Device

A torsional damper device comprises at least three coaxial parts rotatable relative to one another in pairs within defined limits of relative angular displacement. Such rotation occurs against circumferentially acting elastic members operative between them over part at least of such relative angular displacement. A first coaxial part comprises a hub. A second coaxial part comprises at least one transverse annular hub flange around the hub. First teeth with clearance are disposed between the hub and the hub flange. A third coaxial part comprises at least one transverse annular flange around but having no direct relationship with the hub, parallel to the hub flange. The second part further comprises at least one transverse annular auxiliary flange around the hub, parallel to and associated with the hub flange. Second teeth with clearance are disposed between the auxiliary flange and the hub. The first and second teeth are in an alternating arrangement, the overall arrangement of the device being such that for a first circumferential direction of relative angular displacement between the first and second parts the hub flange becomes operative first, whereas for the opposite circumferential direction of relative angular displacement the auxiliary flange becomes operative first.

Torsional damper device

A torsional damper suitable for use in a friction clutch plate for an automotive vehicle comprises a hub and a disk mounted so as to rotate relative to one another against the action of springs. An intermediate member responsive to centrifugal force moves reversibly between a standby position and an operative position, in order to modify the operating characteristics of the damper. The intermediate member modifies these characteristics in its standby position, and can occupy either of two operative positions, in one of which it has no effect on and in the other of which it also modifies the aforementioned operating characteristics.
