A therapeutic impact massager for massaging a body region of a person. The impact massager includes a frame mounted within a flexible fabric support member. The frame includes a plurality of compartments that movably receive conductive elements. Drive coils are mounted within the compartments adjacent to the conductive elements and produce a first pulsed magnetic field. The first pulsed magnetic field induces a second magnetic field within the conductive elements. The first and second magnetic fields interact to force the conductive elements towards the body region of a person to impact thereupon. A capacitor for storing electrical energy is coupled to the drive coils. A switch is coupled in series with the capacitor and drive coils and is movable between the closed state which allows electrical energy to flow from the capacitor to the drive mechanism, and an open state which prevents the discharge of electrical energy through the drive coils. A microprocessor is coupled to the switch and generates a logic command that shifts the switch between opened and closed states. The microprocessor is configured to energize the drive coils in a periodic and patterned manner to repeatedly force the conductive elements toward the body region which imparts a rhythmic wave massaging effect thereto. The impact massager preferably is in the form of a therapeutic garment that overlies the chest and back of a wearer. The therapeutic garment is designed to be used by persons with cystic fibrosis to alleviate the accumulation of mucus within the lungs.

Electro-magnetic impact massager

A digital voltage and continuity test instrument for use by electricians is disclosed. AC, DC and continuity test functions are provided with the AC and DC test modes including auto-zeroing. In a continuity test mode the continuity of the probe leads or the continuity of a circuit may be detected and indicated with a zero-display value. With the probes open circuit in the continuity mode the display provides a reading proportionate to the battery voltage level of the instrument. The electrical test circuitry includes a resistive divider network connected between the test probes, an AC rectifier for demodulating AC voltages received from the resistor divider network and an analog to digital convertor for receiving DC voltages from the resistive divider network or from the demodulator for driving the display according to the magnitude of the received voltage. Strain relief is provided for the test leads and includes an eyelet having a first washer-like end and a second tubular portion for receiving a test lead. The tubular portion is crimped on the lead and the conductor is soldered thereto. The eyelet is positioned within the housing with the washer-like end is positioned near the housing lead aperture so that stress applied to the lead is applied to the inside of the housing through the eyelet.

Digital meter

An electronic motor includes a shaft mounted for rotation about a rotational axis. A plurality of radial lever arms are mounted with respect to the shaft. Each lever arm has an inner end connected to the shaft by a one-way clutch. The clutches allow the shaft to rotate in only a first circumferential direction with respect to the lever arms. An electrically conductive element is attached to an outer end of each lever arm. A drive coil is positioned adjacent to each electrically conductive element. A drive circuit periodically and sequentially energizes each drive coil with current pulses. Each drive coil is oriented to produce a first pulsed magnetic field in a direction generally tangential to the circumferential direction when energized. The first magnetic field induces circulating currents within the electrically conductive element. The circulating currents in turn produce a second magnetic field about the electrically conductive element. The first and second magnetic fields interact and force the radial lever arm to rotate in the first circumferential direction thereby engaging and rotating the shaft.

Electronic motor

An impulse motor includes a stator and a rotor concentrically mounted about a rotational axis. A plurality of flat primary drive coils are circumferentially arranged around the stator and are connected in a parallel circuit. The primary drive coils are oriented to produce magnetic fields in radial directions when energized. The rotor is positioned inside the stator and has a plurality of electrically conductive elements circumferentially arranged around it. A plane formed by each conductive element is parallel to the rotational axis and is tilted a predetermined angle off a perpendicular formed with a radial axis. The magnetic fields produced by the primary drive coils induce circulating currents in the conductive elements. The circulating currents in the conductive elements in turn produce magnetic fields in directions generally orthogonal to the plane of the conductive elements. The magnetic fields of the conductive elements and the primary drive coils interact to create opposing forces with a resultant circumferential component which causes rotational motion of the rotor.

Impulse motor structure, drive system and control circuit

A hand-held ground fault interrupter for checking the operation of a ground fault protected wall receptacle. The blades of an electrical terminal protrude from one end of a housing which contains a potentiometer and electrical connecting means between the potentiometer and the blades. The tester creates a ground fault by allowing current to leak to the ground path, the amount of leakage varied by the potentiometer. A properly operating ground fault interrupter senses the leakage and is designed to trip when it sees a selected level of current leakage. Tripping at lower levels or failure to trip at higher levels indicates a defective interrupter. Recesses in the sides of the housing provide access to the potentiometer dial for rotating the dial and reading a label affixed thereto.

Ground fault interrupter tester

A photocomposing machine includes a fiche-like type font having positive and negative character fields, an optical system having a variable magnification and automatic focus compensation for imaging characters on a film strip, and means for conveniently and rapidly selecting individual characters of the positive field of the type font and moving them into alignment with an index light, which simultaneously positions the corresponding negative character in the optical path. A font carrying frame is mounted for simultaneous and direct X and Y movement with respect to the optical path for rapid selection of characters. The object portion of the optical components including the font, and the lens assembly are movable with respect to each other and with respect to the image plane to vary magnification. An automatic focusing cam maintains the focus of the image for all magnifications. The exposure lamp is used in a full power mode for exposure, and in a reduced power mode as the safe light, and means are provided for automatically adjusting the exposure time and the safe light intensity in accordance with different magnifications.
