A method and system for dynamically reconfiguring an air interface that defines a continuum of frames each divided into a sequence of transmission time intervals (TTIs). The air interface is initially configured according to a first radio access technology (RAT). The base station then detects that at least a threshold extent of wireless client devices (WCDs) served by the base station on the air interface support operation according to a second RAT. And in response, the base station reconfigures the air interface so that certain TTIs per frame instead operate on a second RAT, with the remaining TTIs per frame still operating on the first RAT. The base station then serves WCDs that support the second RAT in the TTIs now configured according to the second RAT, while continuing to serve other WCDs according to the first RAT in the remaining TTIs configured according to the first RAT.

Dynamic reconfiguration of air interface to provide time division multiplexed support for serving wireless communication devices

Systems and methods are described for assigning a mobility parameter to a wireless device. One or more measurement reports may be collected at an access node from the wireless device. A pathloss change for the wireless device may be calculated based on the collected measurement reports. When the calculated pathloss change exceeds a threshold, the wireless device may be instructed to report surplus transmit power at the access node. The reported surplus transmit power may be correlated to preset location environments and a position of the wireless device classified based on the correlation. A mobility parameter may be assigned for the wireless device.

Systems and methods for assigning a mobility parameter to a wireless device operating in connected mode

Systems, methods, and processing nodes for obtaining radio network characteristics associated with network traffic, determining a type of network traffic and/or network session, allocating resources towards a network traffic session based on the type thereof (or type of network traffic), and performing additional network optimization operations based thereon, including but not limited to metering, billing, and service adjustments such as reallocation of resources. When a base station is serving a plurality of UEs, the base station detects that a load level on a first RF carrier is greater than a threshold load level. The base station may then establish or modify an air interface connection with the UE to encompass resource blocks on the first RF carrier and/or resources blocks on one or more other RF carriers, in accordance with the limited allocation.

When a base station that does not support downlink beamforming is serving a UE and a guaranteed-bit-rate (GBR) bearer is established for the UE, the base station will detect the establishment of the GBR bearer for the UE and will responsively trigger handover of the UE to another base station selected based on the other base station supporting downlink beamforming. With this process, handing the UE over to a base station that supports downlink beamforming may thereby help to ensure successful transmission to the UE at the GBR associated with the bearer.

Systems and methods are described for assigning operating bands to wireless devices of a wireless network. Registration notifications for a plurality of wireless devices are received at an access node. Each of the plurality of wireless devices are classified as either an indoor wireless device or an outdoor wireless device. The access node instructs wireless devices classified as indoor wireless devices to operate on a first operating band. The access node instructs wireless devices classified as outdoor wireless devices to operate on a second operating band.

Systems and methods for frequency allocation in a wireless network

A wireless communication network locates User Equipment (UE) that is served by a wireless repeater chain. The wireless repeater chain wirelessly exchanges user data with the UE and wirelessly exchanges the user data with a wireless base station. The wireless base station determines an amount of communication time delay between the UE and the wireless base station over the wireless repeater chain. The wireless base station identifies the wireless repeater in the wireless repeater chain that is wirelessly attached to the UE based on the communication time delay. The wireless base station identifies the geographic location of the UE based on the geographic location of the identified wireless repeater. The wireless base station transfers the geographic location of the UE.

A base station will be configured to provide service on a host carrier that has a particular frequency range and, concurrently, on a guest carrier that has a narrower frequency range and that is defined as a portion of and fully within the host-carrier's frequency range. With this arrangement, a portion of the host-carrier's air interface resources would thus also be air interface resources of the guest carrier.

A data communication system compresses packet headers. A transmitter executes state machines to process a data packet and determine if a transmitter state machine is transferring Interdependent Machine Output (IMO) data. The transmitter generates an IMO vector that indicates if any IMO data is in the data packet. If IMO is present, then the transmitter augments the IMO vector to indicate the individual transmitter state machines that transferred the IMO data. The transmitter transfers the data packet with the IMO vector to a receiver. The receiver processes the IMO vector to determine if any IMO data is transferred in the data packet. If IMO data is transferred, then the receiver processes the augmented IMO vector to transfer the IMO data to individual receiver state machine that correspond to the transmitter state machines that transferred the IMO data.

Methods and systems are provided for enabling a base station to receive signals and synchronization information from neighboring base stations over a frequency band designated for transmissions to mobile devices. In embodiments, a cancellation signal is used to cancel antenna overload resulting from a base station's own transmission. By negating antenna overload, the base station may listen for synchronization signals output by neighboring base stations over the frequency band designated for transmission to mobile devices, such as a downlink band, for example. In embodiments, synchronization signals are used by the base station and/or a server to detect when synchronization failures occur at the base station and/or neighboring base stations. Synchronization signals from a neighboring base station may be used to re-synchronize a base station that have experience such a failure, in some embodiments.

A transmitting device may use a determined extent of retransmissions by the transmitting device to a receiving device as a basis to decide on an extent of concatenation of frames of media. In one example, a transmitting device may monitor an extent of retransmissions by the transmitting device to a receiving device during a packet-based real-time media session. The transmitting device may detect a threshold low extent of retransmissions during the packet-based real-time media session. And responsive to detecting the threshold low extent of retransmissions, the transmitting device may increase an extent of concatenation of frames of media during the packet-based real-time media session.

A Long-Term Evolution (LTE) communication system to facilitate updating network topology information when a mobile wireless repeater changes its attachment comprises a network topology server, a former macro LTE base station to which the mobile wireless repeater was previously attached, and a new macro LTE base station to which the mobile wireless repeater is presently attached. The network topology is server configured to receive updated attachment information transmitted from the mobile wireless repeater and transfer an attachment scan instruction for delivery to the former macro LTE base station and the new macro LTE base station. The former and new macro LTE base stations are configured to determine network attachment information for one or more network wireless repeaters and transfer the network attachment information for delivery to the network topology server. The network topology server is further configured to receive the network attachment information and update a network topology map.

Dynamically updating the location of mobile wireless repeaters

Systems and methods are described for extending coverage of a wireless device. A handover trigger threshold may be established for a plurality of wireless devices located in a coverage area of an access node. An attachment request may be received at the access node from at least one wireless device having a power class different from a common power class of the plurality of wireless devices. Based on the reported power class, the access node may adjust a handover trigger threshold for the at least one wireless device. The access node may instruct the at least one wireless device to extend its coverage until the adjusted handover trigger threshold is met.
