A system includes a controller, a pretreating machine, and an additive manufacturing machine. The pretreating machine is coupled to the controller. The pretreating machine includes a pretreater structured to form an interface layer on a component. The additive manufacturing machine is coupled to the controller. The additive manufacturing machine includes a material feed and a forming beam. The material feed is configured to selectively provide a first amount of material on the interface layer. The forming beam is configured to substantially melt the first amount of material, thereby forming a first layer of a first material deposit on the interface layer.

Systems and methods for adding material to castings

A method of performing a cleanup service on an internal combustion engine. The method involves draining used fleet oil from the engine, filling the engine with cleanup oil, draining the cleanup oil after an operation interval, and filling the engine with fresh fleet oil. The method can be performed as a remedial measure for an engine already exhibiting high oil consumption, or as a preventative measure on a healthy engine.

This disclosure relates a water pump, a system for cooling internal combustion engine components including a water pump, and a method for operating an internal combustion engine including a water pump. The water pump, system and method provide protection of the pump impeller during dry pump operation, such as when a watercraft engine is started while the watercraft is out of water, by dispensing fluid from a reservoir to the pump's impeller chamber. The fluid enters the chamber via a controllable flow path and interacts with the impeller and chamber walls to cool and lubricate the impeller.

This disclosure relates a water pump control system for an internal combustion engine, and a method for operating an internal combustion engine including a clutch-controlled water pump. The water pump control system and method provide protection of the pump impeller during dry pump operation, such as when a watercraft engine is started while the watercraft is out of water, by turning off the clutch-controlled pump when no water is detected at the inlet of the water pump.

One embodiment of the present invention includes an internal combustion engine system designed to increase exhaust temperature when operating with a low mechanical load&#x2014;such as idle operation. This increased exhaust temperature is provided to operate aftertreatment equipment. Exhaust temperature is raised by operating a portion of the engine pistons in a brake mode to increase loading on a remainder of the pistons operating in a combustion mode to drive the engine. Fuel provided to pistons operating in the combustion mode is regulated to maintain speed of the engine within a desired idle speed range.

Modified exhaust aftertreatment filters for filtering engine exhaust are provided as are methods of design and manufacturing modified exhaust aftertreatment filters. The modified filters are subject to reduced back pressure and reduced thermal gradients experienced during regeneration as compared to unmodified filters. The modified filters include flow-through channels obtained by unplugging channels which normally are plugged in an unmodified filter.
