A docking station including a network interface controller to communicatively couple the docking station to a network, a controller to manage the docking station, and a hub communicatively coupled to both the network interface controller and the controller. In one example, the hub is communicatively coupled to a computing device. In another example, the controller causes the hub to use the computing device as a master based on the computing device being communicatively coupled to the hub and causes the hub to use the controller as the master based on the computing device not being communicatively coupled to the hub.

Docking stations

An example docking station includes a network interface controller. The network interface controller is to communicatively couple the docking station to a network. The docking station also includes a controller to manage the docking station. The docking station includes a hub communicatively coupled to the network interface controller and the controller. The hub is to communicatively couple to a computing device. The controller is to instruct the hub to use the computing device as a master based on the computing device being communicatively coupled to the hub and to instruct the hub to use the controller as the master based on the computing device not being communicatively coupled to the hub.

Example implementations relate to docking stations. A docking station can include a power sensing component to determine an amount of supplied power received from a power supply coupled to the docking station, a host power port to power a host device (HD), a peripheral power port (PPP) to power a peripheral device, and a controller to receive a signal indicative of a change in power demands of a HD or power demands of a PPP, redetermine an amount of host power in response to on the detected change, redetermine an amount of dock power in response to the detected change, and cause transmission of the redetermined host power to the HD and the redetermined dock power to the PPP.

Examples relate to operating mode configuration. An apparatus may include a memory resource storing executable instructions. Instructions may include instructions to receive a message from a host computing device coupled to the apparatus. The message may include a Host Based Media Access Control Address (HBMA). Instructions may further include instructions to configure the apparatus using the HBMA in response to a determination that the apparatus is in a particular operating mode. The apparatus may further include a processing resource to execute the instructions stored on the memory resource.

Operating mode configuration

An example device includes a data port to provide a data channel to a host and a processor coupled to the data port. The processor includes an operational mode and a low-power mode in which the processor is to perform fewer operations than in the operational mode. The processor is to execute instructions in the operational mode and to update the instructions with updated instructions received via the data channel in the operational mode. The device further includes a side channel to receive a signal from the host to trigger the processor to switch from the low-power mode to the operational mode and to initiate update of the instructions with the updated instructions.

Instruction updates via side channels

An apparatus including a host system is provided. The apparatus includes a peripheral device in communication with the host system. The apparatus also includes a programmable memory unit within the peripheral device. The programmable memory unit is to receive a configuration profile from the host system. The configuration profile is to re-configure as an embedded device. In addition, the apparatus includes a power delivery system to provide power to the programmable memory unit and to provide power to an accessory of the peripheral device separately. The power delivery system provides power to the programmable memory unit to allow re-configuration of the peripheral device as the embedded device.

Peripheral device configurations by host systems

In example implementations, an apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes a first interface, an upstream device detector, a second interface, and a processor. The first interface receives a multi-channel connection. The upstream device detector is to detect a connection to external graphical processor unit (eGPU) via the first interface. The second interface is to connect a peripheral device that transmit data over the multi-channel connection via the first interface through the eGPU and to a host computer. The processor disables a portion of the multi-channel connection on the first interface when the upstream device detector detects the connection to the eGPU.

An example display includes a user interface. The user interface is to receive an indication to change a power state. The display includes a communication engine to determine a power state of the computing device communicatively coupled to the communication engine. The display includes a power engine to, based on the power state of the computing device, determine whether to communicate the indication to change the power state to the computing device. The power engine is to, based on the indication to change the power state, alter a power state of the display. The communication engine is to communicate the indication to change the power state to the computing device based on a determination to do so.

Power state indications

Examples relate to configuration parameter transfer. An apparatus may include a memory resource storing executable instructions. Instructions may include instructions to receive a first signal from a host computing device. Instructions may further include instructions to initiate communications with the host computing device in response to receiving the first signal. Instructions may further include instructions to receive a configuration parameter from the host computing device in response to initiation of communications with the host computing device. The apparatus may further include a processing resource to execute the instructions stored on the memory resource.

Configuration parameter transfer

An example system includes a first data port and a second data port. The system includes a controller electrically coupled to the first and second data ports. The controller is to cause the first data port to receive power. The controller is to cause the second data port to output at least a portion of the received power. The controller is to detect an impending loss of power to the first data port. The controller is to cause the second data port to transmit an urgent power request.

Data port power transfer

In some examples, an electronic device is to receive a configuration setting that is configurable to a first setting to indicate a first mode of operation, and a second setting to indicate a second mode of operation, wherein a feature supported by the first mode of operation is disabled in the second mode of operation; and configure a dock to which the electronic device is connected to operate according to a mode indicated by the configuration setting.

Example implementations relate to transmitting signals via USB ports. For example, a system according to the present disclosure, may include a host module including a plurality of USB ports, a first expansion module, and a second expansion module. The first expansion module may include a first USB port and a second USB port. The first expansion module may receive a signal from the host module at a first USB port, and direct the signal to a second USB port. The first expansion module may transmit the signal to a second expansion module via a second USB port.

Transmitting signals between USB ports

An example modular computing system may include a host unit. The host unit may include a port that includes a data bus and a power delivery bus. The system may further include a controller to populate a message delivery routing table. The message delivery routing table may include a first address for a first module directly connected to the host unit by the port and a second address for a second module indirectly connected to the host unit by the first module. The controller is to communicate with the second module across the power delivery bus based upon the message delivery routing table.
