A scroll-type compressor is disclosed which includes both a high pressure lubricant sump and a low pressure lubricant sump. Lubricant from the low pressure lubricant sump is supplied to the various bearing, thrust surfaces and other moving parts to lubricate same and a portion thereof is also supplied to the suction gas entering the compressor to replenish the lubricant in the high pressure sump. An oil separator is disposed in a discharge chamber to separate entrained oil from the compressed gas. A level control assembly is also provided in the discharge chamber and serves to return excessive accumulations of oil from the high pressure sump to the low pressure sump. In one embodiment, the compressor is specifically designed for compression of helium while in a second embodiment, the compressor is adapted for use as an air compressor.

Scroll compressor

A method of making a scroll-type machine particularly suited for use as a refrigerant compressor and incorporating an improved suspension system for the non-orbiting scroll whereby the latter may be pressure biased for the purpose of augmenting tip sealing. The machine also has a modified wrap tip and end plate profile in order to enhance performance, as well as an improved lubrication system for the drive and a baffle arrangement to provide a directed suction inlet. The machine also has an Oldham coupling utilizing a novel ring element which is non-circular and provides for increased thrust-bearing size, or reduced machine size.

Method of making a scroll-type machine

A two-rotor, sliding member rotary compressor with an inner rotor, an outer rotor, and at least three sliding members between the inner rotor and the outer rotor. The inner rotor has an outer surface which contains at least one flat portion. The inner rotor is supported by support shafts on each of its ends. The compressor is comprised of a first end plate located on a first end of said inner rotor and a second end plate located on a second end of said inner rotor; each of the end plates supports the inner rotor through a set of bearings. The compressor also has a center housing with a circular interior having an inner surface that is eccentric to the inner rotor, an inlet port, and a discharge port. The outer rotor has a circular exterior that surrounds the inner rotor but is eccentric thereto.

A heat shield is disposed in a hermetic compressor between a discharge port and a local area on an interior surface of the outer shell toward which relatively hot compressed gas is directed. The local area of the outer shell is thereby insulated from the high temperature of the discharge gas.

A two-rotor, sliding vane rotary compressor for compressing fluid containing an inner rotor, an outer rotor, means for rotating said inner rotor and said outer rotor at the same angular velocity, and at least one sliding vane disposed between the inner rotor and said outer rotor. The outer rotor is has an inner surface which is has at least one flat portion. As the inner rotor rotates, the sliding vane contacts the outer rotor.

A scroll-type compressor which is particularly suited for use as a refrigerant compressor has a biasing chamber for pressure biasing the non-orbiting scroll to augment tip sealing. The biasing chamber communicates with the fluid pockets of the compressor through a biasing passage extending through the end plate of the non-orbiting scroll. The biasing passage is in fluid communication with the innermost fluid pocket during only a portion of each of the cycles of orbiting motion and in fluid communication with an intermediate fluid pocket during another portion of the cycles orbiting motion.

A hermetic motor compressor includes a shell, first and second scroll members and a closure member extending across a portion of the interior of the shell adjacent one end of the shell to define a discharge chamber. A discharge port in the scroll member located closest to the closure member provides fluid communication between the center of the scroll members and the discharge chamber through an opening in the closure member. A seal member located between the closure member and the scroll member places the discharge port in sealed fluid communication with the discharge chamber.

A scroll machine has a drive that incorporates radial compliance. The radial compliance is achieved by having the crank pin drive a drive bushing via a flat surface on the crank pin which slidably engages a flat bearing insert disposed in the wall of a bore located in the drive bushing. The bore in the drive bushing is slightly oval in cross-sectional shape to permit relative sliding movement between the crank pin and the drive bushing.

There is disclosed a scroll-type machine particularly suited for use as a refrigeration compressor and incorporating an improved baffle arrangement to provide a directed suction inlet as well as to separate oil entrained in the returning refrigerant and return same to the lubricant sump in the lower portion of the shell.
