The initiator (32) has a hollow spool housing (34) with sidewall slots (42,44) and within which is received a shaft (54) to be releasably retained. Spool segments (46,48) are placed within slots (42,44) and have parts extending into the housing bore (50) obstructingly engaging the shaft (54) preventing its removal. A spring coil (82) wound over the spool segments (46,48) holds them in place. Cartridge assembly (62) is releasably secured to the housing (34) and includes a link wire (72) for securing one end of the coil (82). The link wire (72) is destructible by passing an electric current therethrough exceeding a certain value.

Reusable initiator for use in triggering high-load actuators

A thin flexible laminate for overlay application on the pins of a connector or other circuit element, having an electrically insulating substrate, a conductive lamina of apertured pin receiving pads and a separate ground strip adjacent the pads, and an electrically insulating cover lamina, the substrate and cover having apertures aligned with the pad apertures, the cover having second apertures exposing adjacent edges of said pads and ground strip, with an electrical overstress pulse responsive composite material positioned in the second apertures and bridging the pads and the ground strip.

Electrical overstress pulse protection

An arrangement for protection of electrical equipment from electrical overstress pulses or transients using an electrical coupling to ground through a non-linear resistance having a high resistance at normal voltages and a very low resistance in response to an excessively high voltage pulse of transient, wherein the non-liner resistance is interposed between two contraposed faces of two electrodes, and at least one of said electrodes is a thin planar element whose said face is a thin edge of the planar element.

The cable shield is removed for a short distance from the end cable wire to be inserted into a contact. A generally circular plate has a flange permitting receipt within the connector part shell and a circumferential spring for insuring continuous electrical contact. A plurality of openings are formed in the plate which align with the individual openings in the connector insert. Each plate opening includes a hollow cylindrical metal tube affixed therein with an internal bore enabling receipt of a cable wire with shield and cladding. A leaf spring contact electrode is secured to the wire shield spaced from the cable wire end and lies within the hollow tube, the prepared end of the wire passing out the other end of the tube for receipt within a contact. The plate with tubes is then fitted within the connector part shell providing termination.

Termination means

To prevent possible misalignment of the various parts of a plug and receptacle connector, if the coupling ring is inadvertently rotated before the receptacle is in full position, there is provided an interlock sleeve. This sleeve is spring-loaded and positioned between the coupling ring and the plug outer surface. Internal and external keys incorporated within the sleeve prevent inadvertent rotation of the coupling ring until the receptacle has made entry into the plug sufficiently to key both the coupling ring and plug shell.

Heavy-duty electrical connector

The invention is directed to a multi-contact electrical connector, especially a flat pack connector. The housings for plug and receptacle are X-ray absorbent metal to substantially decrease X-ray penetration. The receptacle face has perforations in the housing metal of dimensions to function as an EMI Grid to shield against RFI entry through the wave guide perforations. Also the perforations are long enough to substantially shield the sockets from X-rays striking the perforations at an angle. The plug and receptacle are locked in mated relation by collet fingertips which close to a ball shape for entry and exit from a receptacle recess, and open wide to a diameter larger than the entry/exit opening in the recess to lock the plug and receptacle in the mated position. A spring loaded plunger rod maintains the locked position. The tug of a lanyard releases the spring load and the fingertips close, are pulled out of the recess by another spring, unlocking the connector and also separating the receptacle from the plug.

EMI: X-Ray protected multi-contact connector

A multi-contact electrical connector having a plug section and a receptacle section is provided with a breech lock for releasably securing the separate sections of the connector together. Toggle action biasing means such as a conical disc spring and high lead threads with a predetermined amount of lost motion therein insure a 'snap-action' mating and unmating of the two sections and the parts thereof as the breech lock is set and unset. This prevents a 'false mating' and insures that the connector will always be either fully and completely mated or unmated. A short pin or remote mate monitor contact is included whereby the condition of the connector can be automatically and/or remotely monitored.
