A rotary valve for fluid flowing in a pipe. The valve has a body provided with upstream and downstream segments located on either side of a central recess constituting a seat into which a rotary sealing element, including a through-channel, is inserted. A decompression insert is arranged in the upstream segment and provided with a first cylindrical section having an outer cross-section equal to the cross-section of the upstream segment, a second cylindrical section having a cross-section that is narrower than the first cylindrical section, and a third section, referred to as frusta-conical connection section, for connecting the first and second sections. The decompression insert has a plurality of radial openings provided in at least one of the walls of the second and/or the third sections in order to diffuse the fluid toward the through-channel of the sealing element during a partial opening phase of the rotary valve.

In accordance with the present invention, there is provided an axial drag control valve which includes an internal disk stack trim and an internal actuator. The fluid inlet and outlet of the valve are disclosed along a common axis, which is further shared with the actuator of the valve. The actuator moves along this particular axis to control the fluid flow rate, pressure, or temperature of the system. The valve actuator may be powered by air from an external source.

In accordance with the present invention, there is provided an axial drag control valve which includes an internal disk stack trim and an internal actuator. The fluid inlet and outlet of the valve are disclosed along a common axis, which is further shared with both the plug and the actuator. The plug and actuator move along this particular axis to control the fluid flow rate, pressure, or temperature of the system. The valve actuator may be powered by an operating fluid such as air supplied from an external source. A special, two-part packing with a lantern ring and leak-off port provides protection and safety for the actuator.

A valve assembly comprising a rotary closure element which defines an axis of rotation and is selectively movable between a fully open position and a fully closed position. Mounted to and movable with the rotary closure element is an impedance assembly. The impedance assembly defines an inflow end and an outflow end, and comprises a plurality of tortuous passageways which extend from the inflow end to the outflow end. Also fully or partially defined by the impedance assembly is an enlarged flow opening which extends from the inflow end to the outflow end. The tortuous passageways and the flow opening are oriented relative to each other such that a portion of a flow through the valve assembly is directed into the tortuous passageways and a portion of the flow is directed through the flow opening when the closure element is in the fully open position.

A rotary noise attenuating valve is provided which utilizes noise attenuation technology previously utilized with linear valves. The arrangement includes an impedance assembly in which the area with the impedance assembly which is accessed by the flow downstream of a rotary closure element flow is varied upon opening of the rotary closure element, with an interface assembly disposed between the rotary closure element and the impedance assembly. As a result, benefits previously realized only in linear valves are attainable utilizing a rotary valve, while the benefits attendant to rotary valves (such as greater capacity, variable .DELTA.p and/or minimum .DELTA.p under max flow) are also attainable. Attenuator assemblies are also provided in which the attenuator or impedance structure is mounted within the valve, either downstream of the closure member, or mounted to the closure member. In a preferred form, in the more fully open positions of the valve, at least some of the flow is allowed to pass without passing through the impedance assembly.

A rotary noise attenuating valve is provided which utilizes noise attenuation technology previously utilized with linear valves. The invention concerns a ball or plug valve for dividing differential pressure into several stages during opening or closing operation of the valve. The valve (1) comprises a body (2) defining a housing (2') for a movable member (3) consisting of a ball (4) or plug (5), and provided with a substantially cylindrical channel (6). The said valve (1) comprises a substantially cylindrical tubular insert (10) received in the said channel (6) and defining at least one inlet chamber (11) and at least one outlet chamber (12). These chambers are diametrically opposite and consist of two longitudinal recesses (13) formed in the wall of the insert (10) parallel to the longitudinal axis (14) of the channel (6). The chambers (11) and (12) communicate via two or more resistords (15) in two cylindrical sectors defined by the said chambers at the periphery of the insert.

The present invention relates to a butterfly type control valve. This valve (30) comprises a body (31) defining a housing (32) for a mobile plug (13), rotating about an axis (14). The housing (32) is extended by an inlet channel (15) and an outlet channel (16), thus defining a connection passage between the inlet channel and the outlet channel. The effective cross section of this passage and therefore the flow rate of the fluid flowing through the valve are controlled according to the angular position of the plug (13). Furthermore, this valve comprises an element which generates a drop in pressure (18) provided with several calibrated passages (19) with a small diameter, located between the inlet channel (15) and a part of the housing, in a peripheral area of said housing (32). The valve makes it possible to reduce cavitation, noise and wear and tear of the valve by creating a considerable drop in pressure when the valve is slightly open, whilst allowing a greater control range.

An attenuator valve is provided by utilizing a closure member having a fluid passage therethrough and an attenuator device disposed in the passage of the closure member which protrudes therefrom and which provides a variable degree of attenuation dependent upon the degree to which the valve is opened. The degree of attenuation is proportional to the degree to which the valve is opened. The closure member in combination with the attenuator device provides an optimal attenuation in the full range of valve settings with decreasing attenuation as the valve is opened, and so that at full open position the attenuator device does not significantly restrict the flow of fluid.

An attenuator valve assembly includes a closure member having one or more attenuator plates associated with it. The closure member have the form of a ball with a bore, a ball calotte, or a butterfly valve disc, etc. The attenuating effect of the attenuator plates are called into play immediately when the closure member is first opened, with the attenuating effect greatest during initial opening of the closure member and diminishing as the closure member is moved toward the completely open position. When the closure member is in the form of a valve disc or ball calotte, the attenuator plates are mounted for rotation with the closure member spaced from the closure member.

A relief valve (10) having both spring biasing means (116) and air pressure biasing means (114). The spring biasing means (116) includes a plurality of spring washers (132) acting between the valve body (12) and a valve member (74). The air biasing means (116) includes an air cylinder defined by an intermediate portion (20) of the valve body (12), and a piston (118) disposed within the cylinder and acting on the valve member (74). An air inlet port (48) is provided above the piston (118) to permit the area above the piston (118) to be pressurized to add to the biasing force of the spring biasing means (116), and an air inlet port (52) is provided below the piston (118) to permit the area below the piston (118) to be pressurized to open the valve manually for testing and exercising. A 'quiet' element (102) surrounds the valve member (74) to reduce the sound level of the fluid flowing through the valve when the valve opens.

Quiet safety relief valve

A drag ball valve (10) that can variable regulate the pressure drop to which the fluid passing therethrough is subjected while maintaining the fluid velocity nearly constant is disclosed. To accomplish this, a series of fixed disks (34) having apertures (36) therein and rotatable disks (42) having apertures (44) with flange-like projections (46) therein are aligned so that either an unobstructed straight fluid passage through the apertures in both types of disks is created or the fluid is diverted by the flange-like projections (46) causing pressure reductions due to a variable number of flow direction turns. By varying the number of fixed disks (34) and rotatable disks (42) used, and by varying the number of rotatable disks (42) that are so aligned, any number of flow direction turns and associated pressure drops from zero pressure drops to the total number of rotatable disks (42) used can be achieved.
