A method of reducing the oxygen content of a powder is provided. A canister is prepared with a getter, filled with the powder to be densified, sealed and evacuated. The canister is subjected to a hydrogen atmosphere at an elevated temperature whereby hydrogen diffuses into the canister through the walls thereof. The hydrogen forms moisture when reacted with the oxygen of the powder and the moisture in the reacted with the getter in order to remove oxygen from the powder to the getter. The atmosphere outside the canister is then altered to an inert atmosphere or vacuum, whereby hydrogen diffuses out of the canister. A dense body having a controlled amount of oxygen can thereafter be produced by conventional powder metallurgy techniques.

Method of controlling the oxygen content of a powder

A method of producing an FeCrAl material by gas atomization, and a high temperature material produced by the method. In addition to containing iron (Fe), chromium (Cr), and aluminium (Al) the material also contains minor fractions of one or more of the materials molybdenum (Mo), hafnium (Hf), zirconium (Zr), yttrium (Y), nitrogen (N), carbon (C) and oxygen (O). The smelt to be atomized contains 0.05-0.50 percent by weight tantalum (Ta) and less than 0.10 percent by weight titanium (Ti). Nitrogen gas (N ) is used as an atomizing gas, to which an amount of oxygen gas (O ) is added, the amount of oxygen gas being such as to cause the atomized powder to contain 0.02-0.10 percent by weight oxygen (O) and 0.01-0.06 percent by weight nitrogen (N).

Method of making a FeCrAl material and such material

This invention relates to an alloy suitable for use in industrial and other heating applications, having a ferritic stainless steel alloy comprising, in weight %, less than 0.02% carbon; &lE;0.5% silicon; &lE;0.2% manganese; 10.0-40.0% chromium; &lE;0.6% nickel; &lE;0.01% copper; 2.0-10.0% aluminum; one or more of Sc, Y, La, Ce, Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb and Ta in an amount of 0.1-1.0; remainder iron and unavoidable impurities. A heating element of this alloy is provided. A diffusion furnace having such a heating element is also provided.

FeCrAl alloy

A dispersion hardened FeCrAl-alloy and method of its production which includes in one step, forming a nitride dispersion in a FeCr-alloy, whereby this nitride dispersion includes one or more of the basic elements hafnium, titanium and zirconium, and, in a later step aluminum is added to the nitrided FeCr-alloy. The unfavorable formation of aluminum nitrides has thereby been avoided by adding aluminum after the nitriding. A FeCrAl-alloy with high high temperature strength and high creep strength has thereby been achieved.
