A computer implemented method, data processing system, and computer program product for automating information sharing and propagation of control commands and events between software objects created in Web applications and 3D virtual world objects created in virtual world applications. A relationship is created to link a Web object with one or more virtual world objects, or to link a virtual world object with one or more Web objects. A Web application may retrieve the meta-data of one or more virtual world objects or send commands or events to manipulate one or more virtual world objects to which a Web object within the Web application is linked. A virtual world system may retrieve the meta-data of one or more Web objects or send commands or events to manipulate one or more Web objects to which a virtual world object within the virtual world system is linked.

Bridging real-world web applications and 3D virtual worlds

Generating popularity ratings for virtual world artifacts based on how often and in what manner avatars access the artifacts is provided. The popularity ratings for virtual world artifacts may be used to determine what virtual world artifacts are selected to have a prominent presence in a virtual world. When an event caused by an avatar accessing a virtual world artifact in a virtual world is detected, the illustrative embodiments receive information about the event, such as the event type, the avatar identifier (ID), and the time the event occurred. The illustrative embodiments generate a rating score for the virtual world artifact based on the information received about the event. The illustrative embodiments update a rendering of the virtual world artifact in the virtual world based on the rating score.

A software system is provided to allow a computer to install and process web applications according to the invention. Such web applications are written as web pages that have access to the full range of operating system resources, including those not accessible through a web browser. Preferably, a web application is built using three types of languages used for constructing web pages, namely: (a) a visual presentation language; (2) a data modeling language; and (3) a scripting language for embedding logic. The software system preferably comprises a web application manager, an operating system interface module, a scripting language interpreter, and optionally a web browser and/or a data modeling language processor. The present invention is a novel management system for selectively distributing applications and databases from a server computer to a plurality of intermittently connected handheld devices. The applications and databases to be downloaded and deleted are first selected from an application list maintained by handheld devices. After established a connection with the server computer, the application list of selected applications is copied to the server computer which maintains an access control list indicating which applications are permitted to be downloaded to which handheld devices. The server computer examines the application list and the access control list to determine which applications are both selected and are authorized for use by the handheld device. After determining that requested applications are authorized for requesting devices, these applications are downloaded. If the connected handheld device does not have that the application list, the application list is created for it and downloaded.

Method and apparatus for server based handheld application and database management

There is provided a method and system for performing synchronization between a first replica associated with an application in a first computer processing device and a second replica associated with the application in a second computer processing device. The method includes the step of generating a synchronization plan for the replicas for managing the synchronization therebetween. The sync plan includes data structure information corresponding to data structures of the replicas, storage access information for enabling access to each individual data unit within the data structures of the replicas, and synchronization and conflict resolution actions for specifying actions to be taken for each individual data unit with respect to the synchronization and any conflicts resulting therefrom. At least one individual data unit in the first replica is synchronized with a corresponding individual data unit in the second replica, in accordance with the sync plan.

The present invention is directed to a computing system which contains a plurality of subunits. Each subunit contains a computing subcomponent and a subunit supervisor subcomponent. The subunit supervisor component monitors functions of the subunit and output signals corresponding to the monitored functions. The plurality of subunits are contained within a housing. The housing contains a housing supervisor subunit which receives the output signals of each of the plurality of subunits. The supervisor subunit outputs the accumulated signals to an input/output device for monitoring the plurality of subunits and for sending commands to each subunit.

A chemical solder is described that includes an organometallic complex or compound which thermally degrades within a predetermined temperature range to a metal and volatile compounds. The solder also includes a polymeric matrix that decomposes within the same temperature range to volatile fractions, thereby leaving only the metal. A method for bonding first and second bodies is disclosed wherein a chemical solder, as above-described, is disposed between the first and second bodies and heat is applied to elevate the solder to the predetermined temperature range to thermally degrade the organometallic compound and to decompose the polymeric matrix. The remaining metal bonds the first and second bodies.

A system for testing chips uses a patterned tape having a patterned array of cantilevered contact leads. The tape serves as an interface between the chip under test and a testing unit by providing conductive leads from the I/O terminals on the chip to an off-chip measuring system. The leads on the array may have balls, tips or other shapes on the end to provide contact with the terminals and compensate for height differences. The tape is a single frame or has a series of arrays each positioned around an opening where the chip will be located when a particular pattern is positioned over that chip for test. The pattern on the tape may be the same array or a different array. The tape is indexed to a new pattern when the old one is damaged or no longer needed. Alignment with the chip is by optical sensing and physical pin movement. The tape may have a flap protruding into an aperture and deflectable to provide for planar contact of the leads to the device under test.
