A security system to create and maintain a secure communication link between a remote secure storage site and a law enforcement office using a continuous prearranged encrypted signal on the communication link. The authenticity of the encrypted signal is validated at the law enforcement office. Interruption of the encrypted signal is treated as an alarm that must be investigated. Sensors at the remote secure storage site detect intrusions and trigger the transmission of an alarm signal from the site to the law enforcement office on the communication link. The law enforcement office may enable video cameras or containment devices in the event of an intrusion.

A control system for the manufacture of a product. A network of activities is created in a primary computer and a baseline schedule is determined. The baseline schedule dates are transmitted to a plurality of secondary computers. The secondary computers monitor external elements used in the activities and predict constraints using delta values. Delta values are a direct estimate of the impact on the final completion date. This allows potential effects to be evaluated in parallel. Resources are redistributed based on the delta values to minimize time and cost.

An individual additional cost threshold may also be assigned to each activity.

A weapons security system composed of containers for storage of warheads or warhead material. The containers are equipped to detect breaches in the enclosure walls and to transmit an alarm signal in the event of a breach. The alarm signal is received by a local control center for transmission to a central weapons command. The central weapons command may also receive the alarm directly. The central weapons command despatches forces to counter the threat identified by the alarm. Also, the central weapons command dispatches electronic authorization or opening codes to the containers or their local guardians. The containers may be equipped with entry deterrent devices and warhead destructive devices which are triggered by the detection of a breach in the enclosure.

Actual and predicted deviations to the baseline schedule, which are called slack variables, are used to predict the actual final completion date, using parallel processing. These slack variables are also used to selectively allocate resources to elements of the manufacturing process. Critical elements and critical dates are readily determined. The incremental cost of incremental schedule improvement can be readily determined. The current status of a project can be described in a single variable.

An arming device for a warhead which determines its location on the earth using navigational satellites and compares that location with an internally stored preprogrammed location. The locations must agree before arming can be accomplished, thereby ensuring that the warhead can be armed only at its authorized location. A two-part code system that requires the first part to be entered by an operator and the second part provided by a preprogrammed storage module is also disclosed. Anti-tampering destruction features are also incorporated.

An assembly for a cylindrical cage which includes vanes made up of blades and end lugs. The end lugs and vanes are attached to a frame by a ring element with a fastener securing the ring element, end lug and blade to the frame. The end lugs are dimensioned and shaped so that when the end lugs of adjacent vanes are nested together, the vanes are spaced apart the desired amount and the angular relationship between vanes is maintained so that the gas flow path between adjacent vanes has the desired configuration. The blades can be made separate from or integral with the end lugs. The invention is particularly designed for use in mounting guide vanes in a cage type air classifier for classifying particulate materials.

A trough-type reflecting solar concentrator and receiver system for aerospace use is disclosed. The reflecting surface is a thin flexible sheet attached to and disposed between curved ribs. The amount of the sheet reflecting sunlight can be changed by winding the unnecessary quantity of sheet onto a roll. The focal length of the curved ribs and therefore the sheet can be changed by flexurally deforming the curved ribs by applying end loads, causing a change in the flux density at the receiver. A similar result is achieved by changing the distance between the reflecting surface and the receiver. The receiver is a photovoltaic array, thermal absorber, or a combination of both. Means for proportioning the amount of energy incident on each type of receiver is disclosed. A spectral splitting thermal absorber with scattering capability is disclosed as a pre-filter for the photovoltaic array.

A roller press comprised of two opposed porous tubular sleeves which are forced together to form a nip by inner driven rollers. Liquid from a mixture fed through the nip is forced into the porous rollers and is transported by them to another circumferential location where the liquid is forced out by a compressed air stream. Filtration belts cover portions of the porous rollers in the areas of the nip.
