The present invention relates to dental compositions comprising a halogenated epoxy functional ether derivative comprising at least one aryl alkyl ether moiety, at least one halogen atom attached to each aryl residue of the aryl alkyl ether moieties, at least two aliphatic epoxy moieties, no glycidyl ether structure, an initiator, optionally filler and optionally additive components selected from the group of modifiers, dyes, pigments, thixotropic agents, flow improvers, polymeric thickeners, surfactants, odorous substances, diluting agent(s) and flavorings.

The development of new compositions and new aromatic sulfur acrylate monomers results in improved hardcoat films, and improved optical films that contain the hard coat films. The films provide improved display systems when incorporated thereon. The combination of functionalized zirconia nanoparticles with multifunctional acrylate crosslinkers and high index of refraction aromatic sulfur acrylates, about 1.58 or greater, produces abrasion resistant hard coats that have relatively high refractive indices.

High refractive index, durable hard coats

The present invention includes optical coatings containing ultraviolet curable monomers employing a bromine substituted fluorene structure. The fluorene backbone of the monomers of the present invention may also be functionalized with one or more polymerizable or reactive functionalities, and most readily at the 9 position. Compositions of the present invention include the reactive bromosubstituted fluorenes combined with inorganic nanoparticles, particularly nanoparticles with reactive surface modifiers exhibiting polymerizable functionality. Reactive high index nanoparticles such as surface modified zirconia are contemplated.

High refractive index monomers for optical applications

A method of the invention comprises a method of transitioning a crosslinked polymer composition from a first chemical state to a second chemical state. Advantageously, compositions of the invention are relatively stable after transformation to their altered, or second, chemical state.

The present invention provides a process for eliminating contaminants from epihalohydrin-derived epoxy resins. Another embodiment of the present invention is an epoxy product formed using said process. Yet another embodiment of the present invention is an epoxy derived in part from epihalohydrin wherein said epoxy is has a hydrolyzable halogen content of less than 10 ppm and an epoxide equivalent weight within 2 percent of the theoretical epoxide equivalent weight.

The invention provides adhesives and adhesive compositions that comprise epoxy resin and non-volatile anhydride. One embodiment further comprises a hydroxyl containing compound that is insoluble in the epoxy resin/anhydride blend at mixing temperatures which reacts with the anhydride at solder reflow temperatures to form a fluxing agent in-situ. Another embodiment further comprises catalyst.

A thermographic element comprising in a non-aqueous binder medium a silver salt oxidizing agent in reactive association with a compound comprising a plurality of redox color releasing moieties such that oxidation of each redox color releasing moiety causes release from said compound of a thermally diffusible dye. The compounds many of which are new incorporate two or more developer moieties into a single molecule to minimize the diffusibility of the compound. Following oxidation, either directly by the silver salt or by means of a cross-oxidizing agent, each oxidized developer moiety releases a thermally diffusible dye. The compounds are of sufficient size and molecular weight to slow or prevent diffusion in imaging systems and yet possess several active developer moieties per molecule which is advantageous over known ballasted dye releasers which comprise bulky molecules with only a single developer moiety.

Developing agents for (photo) thermographic systems

The present invention provides a novel process for the production of organic solvent soluble squaraine dyes. More specifically, the invention describes how a difficult to prepare tetrahydroxy squaraine intermediate can be prepared in an organic solvent system in the presence of water. This intermediate can then be esterified in pyridine to form the soluble squaraine dye which can then be easily isolated from the reaction mixture. The invention also provides the dyes prepared according to this method.

Method of making soluble squaraine dyes

Metal oxidizing agents (such as silver oxide or silver nitrate) are added to a solution of organic chemicals which comprise an unwanted level of organic reducing agents (either aqueous or organic solutions in which the metal oxidizing agent does not dissolve) and the metal oxidizing agent oxidizes at least some portion of said organic reducing agents. Because the metal oxidizing agent is insoluble in the solution, it is readily removed (e.g., by filtration or sedimentary techniques) to leave a solution with reduced amounts of reducing agents therein. This process is particularly useful for purifying phthalazine, behenic acid, and other toners, the component forming the counterion with silver ion in forming the light-insensitive silver source material and any other additives and raw materials which can be dissolved in a solvent medium in which the metal oxidizing agent is not highly soluble.

Certain poly(lactic acid) and poly(glycolic acid) polymers or copolymers, and certain carbonates, lactones, lactates, lactylates, lactides, glycolates, glycolylates, and glycolides have been found to stabilize thermal-dye-bleach constructions containing a dye in association with a thermally-generated-bleaching agent. Preferably, the thermally-generated-bleaching agent is a thermal-carbanion-generating agent such as a quaternary ammonium salt of a phenylsulfonylacetic acid or a thermal-nucleophile-generating agent such as an ammonium salt of a phenylsulfonylacetic acid. These materials have been found to be particularly effective when used in acutance and antihalation systems for photothermographic and photographic elements.
