A boiler is disclosed in which the furnace is divided into a lower furnace and an upper furnace. The lower furnace uses water-cooled membrane walls, while the upper furnace uses steam-cooled membrane walls that act as superheating surfaces. A transition section is present between the lower furnace and the upper furnace. The boiler is a high temperature sub-critical natural circulation boiler which is completely top supported. The lower furnace is supported through the transition section by the upper furnace.

A boiler is disclosed in which the furnace is divided into a lower furnace and an upper furnace. The lower furnace uses water-cooled membrane walls, while the upper furnace uses steam-cooled membrane walls that act as superheating surfaces. The upper furnace and the convection pass are also located next to each other, so that they share a common steam-cooled wall. There is no open pass between the furnace and the convection pass.

Transition castings are disclosed which comprise a steam tube and a water tube, which are joined together by membranes. A heat transfer fin extends from the membrane and abuts the water tube. The steam tube bends such that an upper end is on one side of the water tube, and a lower end is on an opposite side of the water tube. The transition castings are used in a transition section of a boiler in which the furnace is divided into a lower furnace and an upper furnace. The lower furnace uses water-cooled membrane walls, while the upper furnace uses steam-cooled membrane walls that act as superheating surfaces. The transition casting joins the lower furnace and the upper furnace together.

Transition castings are disclosed which comprise a steam tube, a water tube, and a pass-through tube, which are joined together by membranes. The ends of the tubes on one vertical end are aligned in a plane, while the ends of the tubes on the other vertical end are aligned in alternating planes, or put another way are angled instead of being in a straight line. The transition castings are used in a transition section of a boiler in which the furnace is divided into a lower furnace and an upper furnace. The lower furnace uses water-cooled membrane walls, while the upper furnace uses steam-cooled membrane walls that act as superheating surfaces. The transition section joins the lower furnace and the upper furnace together.

A means of attaching and supporting lagging that integrates attachment and support for both insulation and lagging. Angle irons are welded to the hot surface. Insulation pins are also welded to the hot surface at two different levels in a pattern that will support the insulation. The insulation is impaled on the insulation pins. A first subgirt is placed on the angle irons and welded at one end only to an angle iron. The insulation pins are received and extend through bores in the first subgirt. A second subgirt is received on insulation pins at a different level. A fastener is installed oil the end of each insulation pin to hold the subgirts against the outer surface of the insulation. The end of each pin is bent to retain the fasteners in place. The lagging panels are bolted to the subgirts.

A deformable and replaceable energy absorbing structure mounted between the furnace floor tubes and floor tube support truss to absorb impact from falling slag and prevent tube damage. A beam, such as an I-beam extends from the supporting structure and is adapted to hold a deformable structure. A tie bar attached to the floor tube panel extends across the panel and rests upon the deformable structure. This arrangement is provided at as many contact points between the floor tube panel and support structure as necessary to support the dead weight of the tubes while still providing suitable energy absorption characteristics.

Internally insulated or packed panels house a thermal structure such as a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). In a first embodiment, each packed panel has a cold pressure casing with an insulating layer covered by a liner plate. Welded collar studs are fixed to the cold pressure casing to secure the liner plate over the insulating layer. Small, movable end covers are provided at the edges of each packed panel to provide an adjustable panel joint. End covers of adjacent panels are in compression contact when an externally applied weld is provided between the cold pressure casings of adjacent packed panels. Each end cover is movable about each packed panel by means of oversized or slotted holes in the liner plate and end covers that receive each collar stud. Benefits are faster field assembly and allowance for thermal growth while preventing gaps and their associated hot spots from forming at the panel joints. A second embodiment employs a larger end cover in place of a smaller end cover and liner plate.

An assembly for shipping and supporting a module for a heat recovery steam generator comprises a base having four vertical truss members slidably mounted to the base at one end. Each vertical truss member is positioned a distance apart from another vertical truss member across the base such that four paths of adjacent vertical truss members define a front, a back and two sides. The assembly further comprises at least one level. Each level comprises a horizontal member rotatably attached to the vertical truss members at the front and the back of the assembly. A junction is fixed to each vertical truss member at both sides of the assembly; a side truss member is rotatably attached to the junctions at both sides. An internal grid is attached to the horizontal truss members between the vertical truss members. Diagonal truss members are removably attached to the junctions at both sides of the assembly between adjacent levels such that the diagonal truss members diagonally extend from the junction of one level to the junction of an adjacent level.

A barrier for blocking a passage between adjacent modules of a heat recovery steam generator comprises at least one plate for extending between the modules. At least one bracket is mounted to the plate for engagement with each structure. The bracket has one end engageable with one module and an opposite end engageable with the other module for securing the plate between the modules such that the passage is blocked.

An arrangement for containing a top supported heating unit therein comprises a top and bottom opposite the top. Two vertical members are connected to the top and the bottom and the vertical members are spaced a distance from each other. At least one level is rotatably connected between the vertical members. A plurality of support rods are connected to the top and the level. Temporary supports are removably attached to the top, the vertical members and the bottom and the heating unit extends between the top and the bottom through the level and is confined by the vertical members and the support rods.

A modular arrangement for containing a heat exchanger module comprises a base frame and four vertical truss members slidably mounted to the base frame at one end of the members. Each vertical truss member is positioned a distance apart from another vertical truss member across the base frame to define a front, a back, and two sides. The heat exchanger unit is contained within the base frame and the vertical truss members. Intermediate tie steel is supported by the four vertical truss members. At least two different levels, each level having a junction fixed to each vertical truss member, are provided. A horizontal side truss member is rotatably attached to the junctions of adjacent vertical truss members and a diagonal truss member extends between and is removably attached to the junctions between adjacent levels. The base frame, the intermediate tie steel, the vertical truss members, and the heat exchanger unit contained therein define a module for transportation and assembly.

Modular arrangement for heat exchanger units

An apparatus for vertically supporting an internal conduit subject to temperature fluctuations comprising a conduit with shear lugs secured around its perimeter. These shear lugs rest upon a spool member surrounding the conduit that is configured to permit the thermal expansion/contraction of the supported conduit as needed. This spool member is, in turn, supported by an outer casing in a manner permitting the spool member to move or rotate independent of the casing. In this fashion, no rigid connector couples the internal conduit to the outer casing, instead a spool member provides the necessary support while being fully movable with respect to both the internal conduit and the outer casing.
