A system and method for detection and identification of an Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) employs a radar system to detect and identify the UAS based on the rich Doppler spectrum generated by one or more rotors and associated motors onboard the UAS. UAS have a low radar cross sections (RCS), relatively low speed, and possess a unique Doppler signature providing data for the system to discriminate once the system detects the quadcopter UAS. The system and method functions as a traditional radar, yet analyzes the micro-Doppler signature, including the RCS and radial speed, to detect and identify the UAS. Based on the signature analysis, the system and method are able to distinguish one model from other types of UAS.

Radar detection and discrimination of quadcopters using measured Doppler signatures system and method

Systems and apparatuses include an electronically scanned array system including a power supply system, a radiating element subarray, a plurality of beamformer chips, and a plurality of control buses. The radiating element subarray includes active radiating elements, and between about one percent and about twenty percent reserve radiating elements distributed throughout the active radiating elements. Each control bus includes a plurality of primary control paths providing communication from the control bus to the beamformer chips, and a reserve control paths structured to be remapped to provide communication from the control bus to the beam former chips in the event that one of the plurality of primary control paths fails.

Systems and methods of mitigating signal interference in communications involving an antenna array can include determining a radiation pattern of the antenna array in communication with a first communication device. The method can include determining that a power level or gain of the antenna array in a direction pointing to a second communication device exceeds a predefined threshold value, using the radiation pattern of the antenna array and a position of the second communication device. The method can include identifying one or more antenna elements among a plurality of antenna elements of the antenna array to be powered off or applying non-uniform weighting to the antenna elements to distort the radiation pattern of the antenna array in a way to reduce the power level or gain of the antenna array in the direction pointing to the second communication device.

Systems and methods for mitigating adjacent satellite interference

An active electronically scanned array (AESA) antenna system can include a plurality of printed circuit boards (PCBs) having a common shape. Each PCB of the plurality of PCBs can include a respective sub-array of antenna elements surrounded by a passive area, and can include electronic circuitry for electrically steering the sub-array of antenna elements. The AESA antenna system can include a mechanical seal for mechanically connecting the PCBs hosting the sub-arrays to form an antenna array of the sub-arrays. The passive areas can form separation areas between adjacent ones of the sub-arrays when the PCBs are mechanically connected to each other. The sub-arrays are arranged such that the separation areas are contiguous along at most one straight direction across the antenna array.

The summer is for summing the respective phase delayed Fourier transform from each phase delay. The receiver can be an electronic intelligence (ELINT) receiver.

The present invention is directed to an avionics system. The avionics system may include a plurality of multi-function antennas. Each multi-function antenna includes a plurality of antenna elements and an antenna electronics system, the antenna electronics system being communicatively coupled with the plurality of antenna elements. The multi-function antennas are configured for being mounted to an exterior surface of a pressure vessel (ex&#x2014;an exterior surface of an aircraft). The avionics system may further include a plurality of LRUs connected to the antennas via fiber optical cables, the LRUs being located in an interior of the aircraft. The LRUs receive communication control inputs from a communication system and establish settings of the LRUs based upon the received communication control inputs. The multi-function antennas are configured for performing operations (exs.&#x2014;transmit operations, receive operations) based upon the settings established by the LRUs and based upon the communication control inputs.

An apparatus of the present invention may comprise a single receiver with a direct radio frequency (RF) sampling front end, a single analog to digital converter, a digital downconverter and a digital signal processor. In an embodiment of the invention, the receiver of the present invention may simultaneously process navigation signals in the 108-118 MHz band and communication signals in the 118-137 MHz band.

The present invention is a method and system for managing a transmitter located in close proximity to a sensitive receiver. In an exemplary embodiment, the method may include recognizing incomplete receive operations on frequencies that may be affected by co-site transmit operations. Further, the method may include detecting the beginning of a speech message and delaying the speech message up to a selected maximum amount of time. The speech message may be delayed to correspond to required communications performance, allowing receive and transmit operations to be coordinated and thus, reducing the possibility of the receiver to be interrupted or affected by the transmitter operating on a relatively nearby frequency.
