A device includes a first interface, and a processor. The first interface connects to a wide area network and communicates with a first electronic device via the wide area network. The processor is configured to initiate transmission of a request while the processor is disconnected from a local area network. The processor is configured to initiate transmission of a second request to a second electronic device via the first interface. The second electronic device is located in a facility remote to the residential gateway. The processor is further configured to receive media content sent from the second electronic device responsive to the second request.

Home automation system and method including remote media access

A media player device includes a first, a second, and a third interface, and a processor. The first interface communicates with a residential gateway via a wide area network and/or a local area network, and the residential gateway is coupled to a plurality of electronic devices. The second interface communicates directly with at least one of the plurality of electronic devices. The third interface communicates with one or more electronic devices of the plurality of electronic devices via the local area network. The processor is configured to selectively transmit a request via the second interface when the media player device is proximate to the first electronic device, via the third interface when the media player device is not proximate to the first electronic device and is within range of the local area network, and via the first interface when the media player device is outside the range.

A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a media processor that includes a memory and a controller coupled with the memory. The controller can be operable to provide an electronic program guide for display on a video display device, where the electronic program guide includes a surveillance entry associated with a security system in communication with the controller. Other embodiments are disclosed.

A non-transitory tangible computer readable medium is disclosed, containing a computer program for distributing video data over an electrical power line, the computer program including but not limited to instructions to receive first video data and second video data concurrently at a first internet protocol television client device over an electrical power line from a second and third controllable devices in response to the detecting the first event data in the first location at the first controllable device; instructions to create at a first client end user device, a client created internet protocol television channel and insert the client created channel into an existing electronic program guide for the first and second video data; and instructions to send the electronic program guide to a second client end user device for selection and display of the first and second video concurrently at a display for the second client end user device.

System and method for distributing video data over an electrical power line

A method and system to store user data are provided. A system to store user data may include a video recorder device. The video recorder device may include a video receiver to receive video data. The video recorder device may also include a memory device. The memory device may include at least one protected memory region to store video data received via the video receiver. The memory device may also include at least one unprotected memory region. The video recorder device may be adapted to prevent user copying of video data stored at the protected memory region and to allow user copying of data stored at the unprotected memory region.

System and method for storing user data

A method includes receiving an authorization from a multimedia distribution system of a multimedia distribution network at a multimedia receiver. The multimedia receiver includes a peripheral device interface, and the authorization identifies a peripheral device that is authorized to transfer content data via the peripheral device interface. The method further includes providing the peripheral device interface with access to a selectively inaccessible peripheral device driver that is associated with the peripheral device in response to receiving the authorization at the multimedia receiver.

System and method of multimedia access

In a particular illustrative embodiment, a portable personal media player includes a first interface, a second interface, a display, an audio output, a keypad and a processor. The first interface communicates via a network with a residential gateway that is communicatively coupled to a plurality of electronic devices. The second interface may communicate wireless commands directly to at least one of the plurality of electronic devices. The display is adapted to display alphanumeric data and video content. The processor is responsive to a selection received via the keypad to transmit a request for selected media content to the residential gateway via the first interface. The processor receives media content related to the request via the first interface, processes the media content and provides video data to the display and audio data to the audio output. The keypad may include a plurality of dedicated controls, where at least one key is associated with a control function of one of the plurality of electronic devices.

A system is disclosed for performing a method of distributing video data over an electrical power line. The system includes but is not limited to a processor in data communication with a computer readable medium and a computer program comprising instructions embedded in the computer readable medium, the computer program further comprising instructions to detect first event data at a first controllable device in an internet protocol television system; instructions to send second event data over the electrical power line to a second controllable device in the internet protocol television system from the first controllable device in response to the detecting the first event data at the first controllable device; and instructions to receive video data concurrently at a first internet protocol television client device over the electrical power line from the first and second controllable devices in response to the detecting the first event data at the first controllable device.

There are provided a method, a system and machine-readable medium for managing surveillance video at a broadcast video terminal device. The method comprises detecting a security event associated with at least one surveillance video camera communicatively coupled to the broadcast video terminal device and requesting insertion of a surveillance entry associated with storage of a surveillance video of each of the at least one surveillance video camera into an electronic program guide that includes at least one broadcast entry. There is also provided a method, system and machine-readable medium for managing surveillance video entries and a method, system and machine-readable medium for playing a surveillance video.

The present disclosure is directed to a system and method of multimedia access. In an embodiment, an authorization signal can be received from a multimedia distribution system at a multimedia receiver having a peripheral device interface. The authorization signal can authorize data transfer via the peripheral device interface.
