A powertrain is provided that has an engine with a rotatable crankshaft. The powertrain has a transmission with a transmission input member and a transmission output member. A final drive is operatively connected to the transmission output member and includes a drive axle. An engine clutch has an engaged state that operatively connects the engine crankshaft with the transmission input member, and has a disengaged state that operatively disconnects the engine crankshaft from the transmission input member. A motor/generator is provided and a first torque-transmitting device has a selectively engaged state in which the first torque-transmitting device transmits torque between the motor/generator and the transmission output member independent of the engine, the crankshaft, and the engine clutch. A second torque-transmitting device has a selectively engaged state in which the second torque-transmitting device transmits torque between the motor/generator and the crankshaft independent of the first torque-transmitting device and the engine clutch.

Data collection and analysis processes include collecting energy consumption data from an in-vehicle energy source sensor, collecting emissions data from an in-vehicle emissions sensor, the emissions data reflecting emissions produced by a vehicle, and collecting mileage data from a mileage sensor in the vehicle. The data collection and analysis processes also include processing the energy consumption data and the emissions data as a function of the mileage data, calculating an efficiency rating from the processing, and transmitting results of the processing to a data collection system.

A semi-autonomous vehicle couplable to a parent vehicle is described, and includes a chassis supported on first and second axles coupled to a plurality of wheels, a propulsion system configured to transfer torque to one of the wheels, a steering system configured to control direction of travel of the semi-autonomous vehicle, a braking system configured to apply braking force to the wheels, a high-voltage electrical energy storage system, an extra-vehicle communications system, and an extra-vehicle sensory system. A control system operatively couples to the propulsion system, the steering system, and the braking system. A coupling device is configured to electrically couple the semi-autonomous vehicle to the parent vehicle, the coupling device consisting essentially of a high-voltage DC electrical power bus electrically coupled to the high-voltage electrical energy storage system.

A method of increasing a range of a vehicle by decreasing trapped HVAC energy at an end of a trip. The method may include the steps of: determining a destination list based on locations where the vehicle may be parked in the future, the destination list accessible by a control module in the vehicle; determining HVAC reduction regions around each of the locations on the destination list, the HVAC reduction regions accessible by the control module; operating a HVAC system while the vehicle is moving; tracking the location of the vehicle relative to the locations on the destination list; and the control module automatically reducing the energy usage of the HVAC system when the vehicle enters one of the HVAC reduction regions.

Increasing vehicle range by minimizing trapped HVAC energy

A powertrain includes an Atkinson cycle engine having at least one cylinder, a crankshaft, and an air intake system that provides selective fluid communication between the at least one cylinder and the atmosphere. A motor is in hybrid combination with the engine, and a compressor is configured to selectively pressurize air in the air intake system. The powertrain provides the fuel efficiency of an Atkinson cycle engine while compensating for the reduced torque output of an Atkinson cycle engine.

A flanged hollow shroud that is adapted to be sealingly secured to an aperture bulkhead as used, for example, in a vehicle to separate an engine compartment from a passenger compartment, is used to telescopically receive the mating end of a pair of male and female connectors having mating electrical terminals therein. At least one of the connectors, such as the male connector located on the engine compartment side of the bulkhead is sealingly fixed to the shroud and the electric terminals therein are also sealed adjacent to their outboard end within the respective cavities supporting these terminals.
