This invention provides a silver halide photographic element comprising at least one silver halide emulsion comprising silver halide grains which have associated therewith at least an inner dye layer and an outer dye layer wherein the outer dye layer comprises a dye having at least one substituent that has a positive charge, said photographic element further comprising a cyanine dye of formula (I) or (II) (as described in the specification) that is capable of spectrally sensitizing a silver halide emulsion.

A color photographic element is disclosed containing in its blue recording layer unit a blue light reflective layer positioned to receive light from a layer in the blue recording layer unit containing latent image forming silver halide grains of maximum sensitivity. The blue light reflective layer is free of blue absorbing dye and contains tabular silver halide grains having a thickness in the range of from 0.12 to 0.15 .mu.m, an average aspect ratio of greater than 15, and a coating coverage of 0.5 to 1.5 g/m.sup.2, and are formed of greater than 50 mole percent bromide, based on silver. The layer containing grains of maximum sensitivity additionally contains from 0.01 to 0.5 g/m.sup.2 of randomly oriented grains having an ECD in the range of from 0.01 to 0.5 .mu.m.

A color photographic element is disclosed containing in its blue recording layer unit a blue light reflective layer positioned to receive light from a layer in the blue recording layer unit containing latent image forming silver halide grains of maximum sensitivity. Tabular grain emulsions of enhanced photographic sensitivity are disclosed in which the tabular grains contain a maximum surface iodide concentration along their edges and a lower surface iodide concentration within their corners than elsewhere along their edges. The grains contain a dopant capable of providing shallow electron trapping sites.

Radiation-sensitive emulsions are disclosed comprised of high bromide tabular grains containing a peripheral band of increased iodide concentration. The tabular grains exhibit an average equivalent circular diameter of at least 2.0 .mu.m and are of a face centered cubic crystal lattice structure of the rock salt type. The tabular grains include central and peripheral regions extending between their major faces. The peripheral region is up to 0.2 .mu.m in width and contains an iodide concentration at least 2 mole percent higher than that of the central region measured at a location adjacent the peripheral region. Dislocations are present in the peripheral region to increase sensitivity and are minimized in the central region to maintain relatively constant sensitivities when pressure is applied locally.

Tabular grain emulsions exhibiting relatively constant high sensitivities

A tabular grain emulsion is disclosed that combines increased speed, reduced low intensity reciprocity failure, and low levels of pressure sensitivity. The tabular grains containing greater than 70 mole percent bromide and laminae located adjacent the {111} major faces each having a thickness of less than 35 nanometers and containing at least 1 mole percent higher iodide than a host portion of the tabular grains on which they are deposited. The tabular grains contain an iridium dopant capable of reducing low intensity failure in one interior grain portion and a Group 8 speed enhancing dopant present in a concentration of from 20 to 300 molar parts per million in another interior grain portion separated from the iridium containing grain portion by at least 10 percent of the silver forming the grain structure.
