A system, method, and computer program product for efficiently mapping a pattern, such as a fingerprint, from a set of multiple impressions of portions of that pattern. The system may evaluate images of patterns taken from a series of multiple impressions and map the pattern from the image portions while providing the operator with realtime feedback of a status of the set of images. As each new image portion is evaluated, a display graphic or other indicator provides feedback when a new image portion is added to the reconstructed image, or when a new image portion is not added (such as it representing a duplicate). Other status indications may be provided, and when the indication is visual, a degraded resolution of the pattern map may be provided on the display graphic to improve security.

Pattern mapping

A system and method for selectively enrolling new pattern information in a way that reduces incorrect mapping or reduces overuse of previously mapped pattern information using a multi-match model. A method for dynamically enrolling a pattern-under-test into a pattern template, the pattern template including a set of template elements, may include a) determining a number N of template elements of the set of template elements matched by the pattern-under-test, wherein N is greater than one; b) establishing a multi-match mode for a dynamic enrollment of the pattern-under-test into the pattern template; and c) enrolling dynamically the pattern-under-test responsive to the multi-match mode.

Dynamic registration using multiple match enrollment

A system, method, and computer program product for efficiently reconstructing a pattern, such as a fingerprint, from a set of multiple impressions of portions of that pattern. The system may evaluate images of patterns taken from a series of multiple impressions and reconstruct the pattern from the image portions while providing the operator with realtime feedback of a status of the set of images. As each new image portion is evaluated, a display graphic or other indicator provides feedback when a new image portion is added to the reconstruction image, or when a new image portion is not added (such as it representing a duplicate). Other status indications may be provided, and when the indication is visual, a degraded resolution of the pattern map may be provided on the display graphic to improve security.

Image reconstruction

A portable electronic system that includes a biometric imaging device, such as for a fingerprint verification against a trusted pattern template. Security is a factor of a matching process and a quality of the trusted pattern template. By employing a set of user-predictably-influenceable sensor parameters in cooperation with the biometric sensor, it is possible to simply and efficiently enhance security as compared to use of the biometric sensor alone.

Combination of fingerprint and device orientation to enhance security

A system and method for providing a matching process that determines a conforming pattern match to a pattern-under-test from a set of matching patterns in a pattern storage. A matching process tests every template against the pattern-under-test and resolves a conforming match condition when multiple matches to the pattern-under-test are found. In some embodiments, a matcher engine using variable match thresholds may be used to differentiate among matching templates to identify a conforming-matching template with respect to the pattern-under-test.

Absolute identification

A system, method, and computer program product for producing a consistent desired set of operational parameters during use of a patterning solution that would otherwise alter an initial set of operational parameters. A variable match process is adjusted dynamically to counter changes to the performance metric to tend to maintain the performance metric at a desired predetermined specification.

Dynamic match statistics in pattern matching

A system, method, and computer program product for efficiently and securely evolving a pattern, such as a fingerprint representation, from a dynamic set of impressions responsive to a pattern-under-test which may be the pattern. The system may include two modes: 1) a trusted registration mode, and 2) a dynamic, semi-trusted, registration mode. In this context, the dynamic mode is semi-trusted in that it automatically employs trusted information to evaluate new, non-trusted input received from the pattern collection system and, in an event certain criteria are satisfied, this dynamic mode may gain automatic access to the trusted memory/trusted template. That the automatic access to the trusted template is conditional makes this dynamic mode semi-trusted. The trusted registration mode may include definition/production of a trusted template of trusted template elements in a trusted memory, at least one of the trusted template elements includes at least one evolvable seed.

Dynamic registration seed

A system, method, and computer program product for multiplicating pattern images used as a trusted resource while reducing user participation, such as, for example, a producing N number (N&#x3e;1) of reconstructed pattern images using shared images common to at least two constructed pattern images.

Duplicate pattern reconstructions

A system, method, and computer program product for automatic machine-implemented pattern registration, particularly suited to small sensor systems which include a reduced image capture area size relative to the pattern being sensed.

Pattern registration

A system, method, and computer program product for evaluating a conformance of sets of curves using curvature information from curve segments to identify conforming curve segments. These curve segments are evaluated for relative positional variations in a context of a cluster by triangulating corresponding points among the curve segments of the cluster. Little to no deviation between corresponding lengths in the clusters indicate a high probability of match. Confirmation may be done by a more rigorous pattern matcher based upon the conforming curve segments of a cluster.

Curve matching and prequalification

A system and method for selectively variably enhancing template matching when testing a pattern-under-test against a pattern template having two or more template elements. A matching process may be configured with a multi-match mode (MM) enabled or disabled. Disabling the MM allows the match process to indicate a match of the pattern-under-test to the pattern template when a single template element is matched (at a standard security mode). Enabling the MM allows a multi-match security mode in which the pattern-under-test must independently match two or more discrete template elements to report that the pattern-under-test matches the pattern template (with an improved security mode relative to the standard security mode).

Multiple match of template elements

A system and method for improving speed of automated pattern testing for any particular hardware configuration. A pattern testing includes a matching process and a pre-match process that establishes features of interest used in the match process. The pre-match process is used to predict a likelihood of a passed match (or a failed match) and alters the subsequent match process in response to the prediction.
