Polyurethane foams that are hydrophilic but nonetheless have low compression sets are made from a combination of MDI and TDI prepolymers, water, and a polymer polyol. The foams optionally are made incorporating a phase change material in the foam formulation. The phase change material does not require encapsulation.

Polyurethane foams for comfort applications

A polyurethane gel for comfort applications includes a reaction product of a composition that includes (1) from 5 wt % to 35 wt % of a prepolymer component, based on a total weight of the composition, the prepolymer component including a reaction product of an isocyanate component that includes diphenylemethane diisocyanate (MDI) and a polyol component that includes a polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene polyol that has an polyoxyethylene content greater than 65 wt %, based on a total weight of the polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene polyol, and (2) a remainder of a prepolymer-reactive component that includes an amine-terminated polyol and a propylene oxide-ethylene oxide based monol or polyol. The composition excludes any plasticizers.

Polyurethane based gel composition

The present disclosure is directed to a composition and articles containing the composition. The composition comprises a foam and a plurality of gel particles dispersed in the foam. The gel particles comprise an olefin block copolymer and an oil.

A polyurethane foam for comfort application, includes the reaction product of a first composition that includes from 20 wt % to 80 wt % of an aqueous component and from 20 wt % to 80 wt % of a hydrophilic isocyanate-terminated prepolymer component. The aqueous component includes at least 90 wt % of water based on the total weight of the aqueous component and the hydrophilic isocyanate-terminated prepolymer component has a free NCO content from 1 wt % to 15 wt % and is a reaction product of a second composition that includes an isocyanate component and an isocyanate-reactive component. The isocyanate component includes at least 90 wt % of methylenediphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and a weight ratio of 4,4'-methylene diphenylisocyanate isomer to 2,4&#x2032;-methylene diphenylisocyanate isomer greater than 1:1 and less than 10:1, the isocyanate-reactive component including polyethylene glycol and a polyoxypropylene-polyoxyethylene polyol having a molecular weight of from 3000 g/mole to 7500 g/mole and a polyoxyethylene content of at least 50 wt %, and the hydrophilic isocyanate terminated prepolymer component having an polyoxyethylene content from 45 wt % to 75 wt %, based on the total weight of the second composition.

Hydrophilic prepolymer for polyurethane foams

The present invention discloses a structure comprising a plurality of three dimensional cells, wherein each cell comprises exterior walls defining an interior void wherein the walls comprise a plurality of struts and windows, the struts forming borders for the plurality of windows, wherein the struts have a plurality of pores. The present invention further discloses a viscoelastic foam having a ratio of elastic modulus (E') at 20&#xb0; C. to 25% compression force deflection (CFD) of 25 to 125.

Cellular structures and viscoelastic polyurethane foams

Embodiments of the present invention relate to polyurethane foams having high air flow while maintaining viscoelastic properties. In one embodiment, a reaction system for preparation of a viscoelastic polyurethane foam is provided. The reaction system comprises (a) a polyisocyanate component and (b) an isocyanate reactive component. The isocyanate reactive component comprises (i) from 35 to 74% by weight of the isocyanate reactive component of one or more propylene oxide rich (PO-rich) polyols having a combined number average equivalent weight from 200 to 500, (ii) from 24 to 50% by weight of the isocyanate reactive component of one or more ethylene oxide rich (EO-rich) polyols having a combined number average equivalent weight from 200 to 2,800, and (iii) from 2 to 10% by weight of the isocyanate reactive component of one or more butylene oxide rich (BO-rich) polyethers having a number average equivalent weight of 2,000 or more.

Use of poly(butylene oxide) polyol to improve durability of MDI-polyurethane foams

Embodiments of the invention provide for low density flexible polyurethane foams are reaction products of reaction systems including at least one polyol and at least one isocyanate including at least 50% by weight of an MDI based isocyanate. The flexible polyurethane foam has a density of less than about 33 kg/mas determined according to ASTM D 3574-01, a tear strength of more than about 160 N/m as determined according to NBR 8515:2003 and a resiliency of at least 45% as measured according to ASTM D-3574-H.

Low density polyurethane foams

A reaction system comprising an organic polyisocyanate and an isocyanate reactive component for preparation of a viscoelastic polyurethane foam is provided. The isocyanate reactive component comprises (i) from 10 to 50% by weight of one or more low equivalent weight propylene oxide rich (PO-rich) polyols having a combined number average equivalent weight from 200 to 500, (ii) from 45 to 95% by weight of one or more ethylene oxide (EO-rich) polyols having a combined number average equivalent weight from 200 to 800 and an ethylene oxide content from 40% to 65% by weight of the total mass of the EO-rich polyol and at least one of (iii) from 10 to 30% by weight of one or more high equivalent weight PO-rich polyols having a number average equivalent weight from 800 to 2,000 or (iv) from 10 to 40% by weight of one or more propylene oxide co-polymer polyols containing styrene-acrylonitrile.

Process for making low compression and high airflow MDI viscoelastic polyurethane foam

A reaction system comprising (a) a polyisocyanate component and (b) an isocyanate reactive component for preparation of a polyurethane foam having high air flow with low compression set is provided. The isocyanate reactive component comprises (i) from 45 to 70% by weight of one or more PO-rich polyols having a combined number average equivalent weight from 210 to 510, (ii) from 20 to 30% by weight of one or more ethylene oxide polyols having a combined number average equivalent weight from 200 to 500, (iii) from 10 to 25% by weight of one or more ethylene oxide-alkylene oxide polyethers having a combined number average equivalent weight from 300 to 800; and (iv) from 0.5 to 15% by weight of one or more PO-rich polyols having a functionality of 1 to 4 and a combined number average equivalent weight of 2,000 to 6,000.

Process for making high airflow and low compression set viscoelastic polyurethane foam

Embodiments of the present invention disclose viscoelastic foams having a renewable natural resource contents of between about 1 and about 25 wt % of the foam. The foams may have a ratio of elastic modulus (E') at 20&#xb0; C. to 25% compression force deflection (CFD) of 25 to 125.

Natural resource based viscoelastic foams

Vehicle headliners are prepared with a core layer of a fiber-reinforced polyurethane foam. The polyurethane foam is prepared from a polyurethane-forming composition that uses water as a blowing agent and polyol or polyol mixture that has a high functionality and an average hydroxyl equivalent weight of 100-130. The selection of polyols permits cycle times to be reduced by allowing for faster demolding and shortened aging times before post-molding heat lamination steps can be performed.
