Methods of manufacturing multifilament yarns of filled high-performance polyethylene (HPPE) fibers that are formed of HPPE filled with a hard component having a Mohs hardness of at least 2.5 are provided. The methods include applying a solvent solution or an aqueous suspension of a polymeric resin to the filled HPPE fibers and thereafter at least partially drying the solvent solution or aqueous suspension to obtain the yarn. The polymeric resin is a homopolymer of ethylene or propylene or is a copolymer of ethylene and/or propylene, and has a density as measured according to ISO1183-2004 in the range from 860 to 970 kg/m, a melting temperature in the range from 40 to 140° C. and a heat of fusion of at least 5 J/g.

Method of manufacturing multifilament yarns of filled high-performance polyethylene (HPPE) fibers

The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a composite sheet comprising high performance polyethylene fibres and a polymeric resin comprising the steps of assembling HPPE fibres to a sheet, applying an aqueous suspension of a polymeric resin to the HPPE fibres, partially drying the aqueous suspension, optionally applying a temperature and/or a pressure treatment to the composite sheet wherein the polymeric resin is a homopolymer or copolymer of ethylene and/or propylene. The invention further relates to composite sheets obtainable by said method and articles comprising the composite sheet such as helmets, radomes or a tarpaulins.

A chain link having a strip which includes warp yarns and weft yarns is provided, with the warp yarns containing a warp yarn A and a warp yarn B, with the minimum creep rate of warp yarn B being higher than the minimum creep rate of warp yarn A, wherein the strip comprises a longitudinal core section and at least two longitudinal edge sections, and wherein the concentration of warp yarn A in the core section is higher than the concentration of yarn A in the edge sections of the strip and the concentration of warp yarn B in the edge sections is higher than the concentration of warp yarn B in the core section of the strip. The invention relates to a composite sheet comprising at least two adjacent fibrous monolayers of unidirectionally aligned high tenacity polyethylene fibers, whereby the direction of orientation between the polyethylene fibers of said two fibrous layers differs by at least 80&#xb0; and up to 90&#xb0;, the fibers having a tenacity of at least 1.5 N/tex, said fibers being in a matrix comprising a homopolymer or copolymer of ethylene and wherein said homopolymer or copolymer of ethylene has a density as measured according to IS01183 of between 870 to 980 kg/m, said composite sheet having an areal density of between 50 and 500 g/mwherein the composite sheet has an areal density normalized in-plane shear force measured at 25&#xb0; C. evaluated according to the bias extension test method of at least 0.40 N&#xb7;m&#xb7;g-1 at 10 mm clamp displacement.

The invention relates to an endless shaped article comprising at least one strip of material forming a plurality of convolutions of the strip of material, the strip having a longitudinal axis, wherein each convolution of said strip comprises a twist along the longitudinal axis of said strip, wherein said twist is an odd multiple of 180 degrees. The invention also relates to a method to manufacture said article, and its use as sling, loop, belt or chain link.

Composite panel comprising at least one layer containing at least one tape comprising a thermoplastic polymer selected from the group consisting of polyolefins, polyesters, polyvinyl alcohols, polyacrylonitriles, polyamides or polyketone, wherein the tape has a tensile strength of at least 1.2 GPa and an areal density of between 5 and 150 g/m, and an adhesive in contact with said layer, whereby the amount of the adhesive in contact with one side of the at least one layer is between 0.2 and 15 g/m, wherein the adhesive is a plastomer wherein said plastomer is a random copolymer of ethylene or propylene and one or more Cto Ca-olefin co-monomers and wherein said plastomer has a density as measured according to 1801183 of between 860 and 930 kg/m. In a preferred embodiment the tape comprises an ultra high molecular weight polyethylene. The composite panel is used in a ballistic resistant article.
