The invention relates to a coating composition comprising at least one binder and a multipurpose additive obtainable by reacting a vegetable oil with a diol or by transesterifying a vegetable oil lower alkyl ester with a diol, both reactions in the presence of a catalyst. The multipurpose additive is used to replace partly the solvent of the coating composition and/or to replace partly the binder thus reducing the VOC content and the viscosity.

The invention relates to pigmented tinting concentrates comprising a) stabilized pigments; b) humectant compounds obtainable by effecting a Diels Alder reaction at a temperature of 150-260&#xb0; C. between a polyunsaturated compound and a co-reactant having the formula RXOC&#x2014;CH&#x2550;CH&#x2014;COXRor CH&#x2550;CH&#x2014;COXRor CH&#x2550;CH(CH)&#x2014;COXRwherein X is oxygen or &#x2014;NH&#x2014; and wherein at least one of Rand Ris a polyether moiety and any other of Rand Ris a polyether moiety or hydrogen and Ris a polyether moiety.
