A card assembly includes a card that includes a first edge and an opposing second edge, where the first edge includes an edge connector; and device sockets mounted to the card and operatively coupled to the edge connector, where each of the device sockets defines an end of a respective device bay, where each of the device bays is disposed at an angle of approximately 25 degrees to approximately 75 degrees with respect to the edge connector.

Computing devices having slots and components for receipt of different types of peripherals are disclosed. According to an aspect, a computing device includes a body that defines an interior and comprises a rear wall defining a slot that extends into the interior. The slot is sized and shaped for receipt of two or more different types of peripherals. The computing device includes a motherboard that defines another slot being sized and shaped for receipt of the different types of peripherals. The other slot is substantially coplanar with the second slot. The computing device includes a connector operably interfaced with the motherboard and configured to interface with the different types of peripherals.

An apparatus includes a plurality of hardware components that each include a first interface. An apparatus includes a printed circuit board that includes a plurality of interfaces that communicatively couple each of the hardware components to the printed circuit board via the first interface. The printed circuit board includes a second interface that communicatively couples the printed circuit board to an information handling device and manages communications between the information handling device and each of the hardware components coupled to the printed circuit board.

One embodiment provides an apparatus, including: a processor; a housing including a plurality of slots; and a single piece card retainer, comprising: a back surface; a front surface comprising a plurality of independent projections, wherein each of the plurality of independent projections is flexible and aligns with a slot of the plurality of slots; and at least two connection points that connect the single piece card retainer to the housing, where the single piece card retainer rotates about the at least two connection points to open and close with respect to the plurality of slots. A system and method are provided that comprise a circuit board including one or more processors and a chassis that holds the circuit board. The chassis includes a card receptacle that receives an electronics card. The electronics card comprises a card circuit board having electronic components including one or more processors. The card circuit board has a chassis loading end. A heat sink is provided on the circuit board and thermally coupled to one or more electronic components to dissipate heat therefrom. The heat sink has a three-dimensional envelope having a stepped end profile relative to the chassis loading end. Vent openings are provided in shielding of the electronics card for airflow from the electronics card.

One embodiment provides an apparatus, including: a processor; a hard drive operatively coupled to the processor; and a tray that houses the hard drive; said tray comprising a bottom, a first side, a second side, and a pivotable planar element; wherein the pivotable planar element rotates relative to the bottom to relocate from the bottom of the tray to a side of the tray. A chip sandwich includes a heat sink, a retention module, a computer chip mounted in a socket on a mother board, a wave washer spring and a mounting plate. The heat sink is mounted on the retention module using cams, hooks and heat sink tabs to provide an initial orientation of the heat sink over the computer chip. To provide final contact pressure between the heat sink and the computer chip, a wave washer spring oriented beneath the computer chip and under the mother board provides an upward pressure against the bottom of the mother board, and particularly against the center of the computer chip. Thus, by the wave washer spring pushing against the center of the computer chip, secure contact pressure is provided between the heat sink and the computer chip, while minimizing the amount of pressure between the computer chip's pins and the chip socket.

A computing system includes a frame and a drive mounting structure for mounting one or more drive units within the computing system, with the drive mounting structure being pivotally and removably mounted on the frame to move between an operating position, in which an internal end of a drive unit mounted within the drive mounting structure is held within the computing system, and a service position, in which the internal end of the drive unit extends outward from the computing system. In the service position, access is provided to an open end of the drive mounting structure, into which the drive unit can be installed, to the internal end of the drive unit, for attachment of a cable, and to a side of the drive mounting structure, through which fasteners are driven to mount the drive unit within the drive mounting structure.

Removable structures for mounting computer drive devices, pivotable between operating and service positions

A system for mounting components within a frame of a personal computer where access to only one side of the frame is needed to mount or remove the components with fasteners and fastening tools. The components are secured and restrained from movement in three orthogonal directions. The fasteners are mounted to the exposed side. Bracket guides and spring fingers extend from the frame to provide location and biasing forces to secure the components in their proper locations. This system requires fewer fasteners and reduces assembly time during manufacturing and/or repair. It is easier and quicker to remove and replace a defective component or one which is being upgraded in the system.

A frame is provided at the front end of the adapter card receiving area of a personal computer which includes card guides, a flex bar for retaining inserted cards and a dual function blocking member which has opposed blocking surfaces so arranged that they retain the locking bar respectively in a lock and open position respectively and transition between the two with simple, one-hand activation.
