A hydrolyzer infeed system for supplying waste material to a hydrolyzer in a continuous manner, the infeed system comprises an infeed chamber, an inlet gate separate a chamber inlet from a chamber outlet, a ram disposed to reciprocate within the infeed chamber and compress waste material against the inlet gate when the gate is in the closed position and configured to push the compressed waste material past the inlet gate into a hydrolyzer when the gate is in an open position, an actuator operably coupled to the ram and configured to move the ram between retracted and extended positions. In one aspect, the ram extends past the inlet gate when in an extended position. In another aspect, an actuator position sensor operably coupled to the actuator generates a position signal representative of a position of the actuator and a corresponding position of the ram at all positions between the retracted ram position and the extended ram position.

Infeed system for hydrolyzer

Disclosed herein is a reactor vessel for plasma gasification reactors employing a DC graphite electrode, AC graphite electrodes, AC plasma torches or DC plasma torches to create a high-energy plasma arc for the pyrolytic decomposition of feed materials. The vessel is configured with an upper portion and a lower portion, where the lower portion is for the containment of a layer of molten metal (iron) and a second layer of slag and having a substantially uniform width, while the upper portion being for the containment of gas and having a varying width. The reactor vessel comprises a steel shell housing a multi-layered wall that defines a chamber where the multi-layered wall includes a first layer high-density refractory material, a second intermediate layer of a insulating material, and a third outer layer of high-density refractory materials. The vessel also includes a multi-layered bottom a first bottom layer comprised of one or more layers of high-density refractory material, and a second bottom layer comprised of insulating materials. The vessel has at least one opening in the wall of the vessel for the introduction of feed material located just above the slag layer.

Reactor vessel for plasma gasification

An apparatus for forming nano-structures of carbon solids includes a reactor chamber into which extends a plasma torch configured to generate a plasma plume that extends into the interior of the reactor chamber. COfrom is applied to the plasma plume where the CO2 is dissociated into carbon and oxygen. A plurality of nozzles also extends into the reactor chamber, which sprays liquid water on the plume, cooling at least a portion of the carbon causing it to form solid carbon nano-structures in a mixture of liquid water. The mixture is conveyed to a flocculation tank.

Method and apparatus for precipitation of nano-structured carbon solids

A method and apparatus for plasma gasification of waste materials consisting of organic and inorganic portions is provided which includes a refractory-lined reactor vessel, a feeder mechanism, and a DC electrode device. The refractory-lined reactor vessel has a processing chamber formed therein. The feeder mechanism feeds continuously waste materials into the processing chamber at a controlled feed rate. The DC electrode device is used for heating the processing chamber to a sufficient temperature so as to convert the organic portions of the waste materials to a synthetic gas consisting of hydrogen and carbon monoxide and to a carbon particulate, and to convert the inorganic portions of the waste materials to a molten material consisting of a lower metallic layer and a slag layer formed on top of the metallic layer.

Method and apparatus for plasma gasification of waste materials

An apparatus for conveying solid waste to a furnace includes an opening to an elongated channel into which waste material is received and an outlet open to the furnace. A reciprocating ram with a head plate located in the channel opposite the outlet forces the waste toward the outlet. The ram also has an upper shield dimensioned to be slightly greater in area than the opening such that the opening is blocked when the ram is extended. The channel also includes an actuator-impelled restrictor plate for compressing waste as it is forced through said channel into a narrower portion, and a isolation door operable to close off the channel.

Apparatus for conveying solid waste to a furnace

A gas conduit for venting high temperature reactor comprising a conduit portion in direct communication with the reactor for receiving gas therefrom where the conduit includes a Venturi for creating a high pressure zone in the area prior to exit of the reactor. The conduit, accordingly, has a portion having first and second diameters, where the second diameter less than the first diameter and is dimensioned in order to provide an area of high pressure in the region of the first diameter.
