Embodiments herein describe techniques for a magnetic conductive device including a substrate, an under layer above the substrate, and a magnetic conductive layer including NiFe alloy formed on the under layer. A method for forming a magnetic conductive device includes forming a support stack including an under layer above a substrate, cleaning the support stack, and performing electrodeposition on the under layer by placing the support stack into a plating bath to form NiFe alloy on the under layer. The NiFe alloy includes Ni in a range of about 74% to about 84%, and Fe in a range of about 26% to about 16%. Other embodiments may be described and/or claimed.

Magnetic conductive NiFe alloys

Permeable antennas are presented. In embodiments, a permeable antenna may include a flux channel comprising a permeable material inside a trough in a conducting ground plane, the trough having a depth d and a width b; and a capacitive shunt admittance provided at the mouth of the trough. In embodiments, the capacitive shunt admittance may be one of: a slitted conducting plane or a single feed parallel solenoid, fed by a transmission line at a center loop. In embodiments, the conducting material may be anisotropic, and may include a ferromagnetic laminate comprising alternating thin metal films with thin insulating dielectrics. Related methods of providing permeable antennas are also presented.

Optimal permeable antenna flux channels for conformal applications

Broadband antennas are described that include a quad-ridge horn inside which two different lenses are inserted creating a broadband horn-lens combination. One of these lenses is a cross-polyrod lens, formed from a pair of polyrods disposed in a crossed arrangement, each polyrod shaped in a predetermined manner. The other one of these lenses is a prolate spheroidal lens. The broadband antennas can produce, at the output thereof, Gaussian-like beams in both principal polarizations from VHF to 20 GHz. As such, the broadband antennas can be used to perform material measurements in a compact admittance tunnel. Simulation results show that directivity of quad-ridge horns can be improved using the combination of lenses of the broadband antennas. Therefore, the broadband antennas can also be of interest for far-field radiation applications.

Broadband quad-ridge horn antennas

System and method for wireless, low-loss transmission in conductive medium of a radio-frequency signal received by a passive array of magnetic dipole elements from a source magnetic dipole. The individual elements are separated from one another by a distance on the order of or less than a quarter-wavelength corresponding to resonant radio-frequency. An array individual elements of which are microscopically dimensioned form a neuronal transmitter that can be configured to be implanted into neuronal tissue such that a source dipole, disposed near a neuron, passes a signal representative of neuronal activity along the array to an outmost element and further to external receiver disposed near skull. Macroscopically-dimensioned embodiment is configured to be submerged into and operate in salty water.

Virtual magnetic transmission lines for communication and power transfer in conducting media

The present disclosure provides systems and methods for enhancing the performance of permeable antennas. Further, the parallel solenoid feed system disclosed herein may be used to reduce or eliminate significant phase delays in antennas, which may lead to destructive interference. Moreover, use of the parallel solenoid feed in an antenna eliminates the need for multiple feeds, complicated feed networks, and elaborate matching circuits. Using the parallel solenoid feed in circular magnetic antennas may enhance the performance of the antenna through maintaining the flux. Finally, many adjustable parameters for further tuning and/or optimizing the performance of particular antenna design have been identified herein, which may allow those skilled in the art to utilize known systems, such as full wave simulation software, to determine the desired final design for an antenna utilizing a parallel solenoid feed.

Parallel solenoid feeds for magnetic antennas

Techniques, devices and systems use pseudo-conductor materials as antennas to receive or radiate electromagnetic energy for communications and other applications. Methods of configuring an antenna can include, in some implementations, selecting a pseudo-conductor material having an electromagnetic constitutive property, wherein the electromagnetic constitutive property comprises a real part of the electromagnetic constitutive property that is greater than a corresponding imaginary part of the electromagnetic constitutive property; and forming the pseudo-conductor material into an antenna shape configured, upon being excited, to radiate emissions that satisfy a predefined antenna performance, such that the pseudo-conductor material formed in the antenna shape weakly guides an electromagnetic wave on the pseudo-conductor material using a leaky mode that is below cutoff to establish a field structure to radiate the emissions from the pseudo-conductor material that satisfy the antenna performance.

Pseudo-conductor antennas

Designs and operations of momentum antennas are presented. In some antenna designs, the terminating discontinuities are complementary with the opposite transmission line's discontinuity. In other antenna designs, the terminating discontinuities are intrinsically self-complementary.

Antennas with broadband operating bandwidths

A variable permeability antenna apparatus includes a first region configured for coupling with a feed of a radio frequency signal and a second region for transmitting the radio frequency signal. The permeability of material at the second region is greater than the permeability of material at the first region. Also, a spiral antenna for transmission or reception of radio frequency signals is disclosed.

Magnetic pseudo-conductor spiral antennas

A radio frequency transmission apparatus includes a first elongated antenna element having a first feed end and a first aperture end. A second elongated element has a second feed end and a second aperture end. The second feed end is coupled to the first feed end. The first and second elongated antenna elements are positioned relative to each other to render a separation between the first antenna element and the second antenna element to increase from the first and second feed ends to the first and second aperture ends. The first and second antenna elements comprise pseudo-conductor material having an electromagnetic constitutive property having a real part greater than the corresponding imaginary part of the electromagnetic constitutive property.

Magnetic pseudo-conductor conformal antennas

An antenna includes a first antenna element comprising a pseudo-conductor material and forming a substantially closed polygonal loop around a center. The first antenna element conforms to a ground plane. The antenna also includes a plurality of transmission lines in the ground plane. Each transmission line comprises a conductor material, is extending radially outward from a feed end towards an outer end, is electromagnetically coupled to the first antenna element at a crossover point at which the transmission line crosses over the first antenna element, and is coupled, at the center, to a corresponding feed line. The antenna further includes a feed circuit for exciting the plurality of transmission lines to cause the antenna to emit in a predetermined direction and using a predetermined polarization mode.

Multi-function magnetic pseudo-conductor antennas

A linearly polarized eddy current sensor including a source antenna and a parasitic antenna coupled to the source antenna, serves as a high sensitivity tool for the measurement of the surface impedance of sheet goods without requiring contact with the sample. Sheet goods can have an anisotropic, frequency-dependent surface impedance that is sensitive to minor changes in configuration of the sample. Because the electric field induced by the sensor is linearly polarized, measurement of directionally dependent sheet impedance can be achieved. The measurement is performed with the resonant device operating in resonance mode whereby the immediate proximity of the material to be measured causes damping and shifting of the coupled loop resonance. The resonant frequency of the sensor can be tuned by making changes to its geometry.

Resonant linearly polarized eddy current sensor

An electromagnetic reactive edge treatment including an array of capacitively-loaded loops is disposed at or near an edge of a conductive wedge. The axes of the loops are oriented parallel to the edge of the wedge. This edge treatment may enhance or suppress the hard diffraction coefficient, depending on the resonant frequency fof the array of loaded loops. Diffraction of incident waves that are lower (higher) in frequency than fmay be enhanced (suppressed) due to the increase (decrease) in effective permeability of the volume occupied by the array of loops. Applications include controlling antenna patterns, side lobe levels, and backlobe levels for antennas mounted on conductive surfaces near edges or corners.

Electromagnetic reactive edge treatment

A dielectric polyrod having at least one tapered section, where a section exposed outside of the waveguide is tapered a long a curve that depends on the dielectric constant of the material used. The invention also relates to an aperture matched polyrod antenna which includes the same and an inductive tuning element used to achieve wideband impedance match and to create a Gaussian beam in the radiating near field of the antenna, suitable to mimic a small region plane wave.

A plane wave antenna including: a horn antenna; a waveguide at least partially inside the horn antenna, wherein the waveguide includes: a central dielectric slab increasing in width toward the horn antenna and with a first dielectric constant, an upper slab above the central dielectric slab with a second dielectric constant, and a lower slab below the central dielectric slab with the second dielectric constant; wherein the central dielectric slab has a substantially constant thickness less than a quarter of a wavelength at a highest frequency of operation of the plane wave antenna.
