This invention relates to the therapeutic and prophylactic use of a combination including lactoperoxidase and at least one other component, with an isoelectric point of, or substantially above 6.8, and which are extracted from milk, to modulate the microbiome of an animal by selectively against at least one pathogenic microoganism.

Combination, therapeutic uses and prophylactic uses

A robotic milking system includes a stall wherein dairy animals enter one at a time to be milked automatically. A holding tank receives successive measures of milk from successive dairy animals. Separation devices receive the successive measures of milk from the holding tank to separate components from the milk.

On-farm separation of milk components

Method and apparatus for testing a milk for mastitis wherein the milk sample is admixed with a detergent under condition that increase the viscosity of the milk sample; the increased viscosity mixture is subjected to a further procedure for further increasing its viscosity; and the further increased viscosity mixture is then tested for an attribute of somatic cells, such as DNA. This determination is then used to establish if the cow from whom the milk came has mastitis.
