The cutting device can be used to slice, make julienne strips, and/or dice food items. In dicing, preferably the horizontal slicer blade is retracted during a first pass of the slider past the julienne blades, and after the slider has been rotated by 90&#xb0;, during a second pass, the horizontal blade is erected to make the horizontal cut and complete the dicing operation. A slicing width adjustment is provided with a large diameter threaded member being adjustable to support a movable platform, with an adjustable locking mechanism to support the end of the platform nearest the horizontal cutting blade.

The moveable dam structure of an adjustable measuring device such as a spoon or scoop has a structure molded of a single material with thin flexible curved edges which fit into the internal walls of the housing to provide increased surface contact without co-molding or other assembly of a separate edge seal onto the moveable dam. The moveable dam is molded in a single step of a single thermoplastic material to give the dam a tapered cross-sectional shape with the inner portion thicker than the outer edges, with curved edges forming angles substantially different from 90&#xb0; when bearing against the internal walls of the measuring container.

A device is provided for cutting and/or de-silking corn on the cob. A single unit has a base and a removable cover. A brush for use in removing silks is mounted on one side of the base, and a cutter is mounted on the other side. When it is desired to use the tool on one side instead of the other, the cover is placed over the other tool. The cover then is used as an easy-to-grip palm-fitting structure to push the brush or the cutter along the ear of corn.

Corn preparation device

The dispenser dispenses premeasured quantities of a granular or powdered material when a lever on the dispenser housing is pressed inwardly. The quantity dispensed with each stroke of the lever can be adjusted easily by turning a dial on the outside of the housing. This adjusts the effective volume of a pair of telescoping tubes inside the dispenser. The dispenser is easily refilled merely by removing the top cap and pouring in the material to be dispensed.

The baster has a bellows for use in providing suction to draw basting liquid into a tapered tube, and compression to eject the liquid out of the tube. A valve at the lower tip of the tube provides resistance to the unwanted outflow of liquid from the tube to greatly reduce or eliminate dripping. Preferably, the valve has the form of a flexible membrane over the lower tip of the tube, with a plurality of slits which cross one another.

Leakage past the sliding dam structure in an adjustable measuring spoon or scoop is stopped by extending an edge-mounted seal into the space between the dam structure and the side flange of the slider to which the dam structure is attached, or by providing thin, flexible curved edges to the dam structure to increase the area of sealing contact with the inside walls of the bowl in which the dam structure slides. Increased surface contact is provided due to the angle that the dam edges make with the inner bowl surface areas.

Condiment grinder and dispenser in which the usual shield for protecting the adjustment screw on the end of the drive shaft is replaced and the screw is secured against accidental removal and loss by providing a stop structure which is attached to or integral part of the end of the drive shaft. This structure, unlike a shield, does not interfere with the adjustment of the coarseness of the grind produced by the grinding dispenser, and yet maintains the integrity of the device without undue complexity or manufacturing expense.

Peppercorns and coarse salt are selectively stored, ground and dispensed. Two squeeze-levers are provided for actuating the grinder, with a lock for selectively disabling one of them so that only one condiment is dispensed at a time. Means is provided for increasing the quantity of condiment ground for each stroke of the grinder lever.

A cutting board is fitted with a removable cup, preferably adjustable, which is positioned so as to receive cut food particles swept off the board into the cup. A barrier is provided on the board surface to prevent spillage of food which misses the cup. The cup is semi-cylindrical and fits into a recess in the board.

The can opener is a side-cutting opener with handle levers which pivot vertically towards and away from one another. A rotary cutter wheel is normally retracted to a position inside one of said handle levers, but is thrust outwardly to cut into the rim of the can when the handle levers are squeezed together. A drive wheel engages the rim and is rotated by means of a rotary drive handle to cut the top off the can. Spreading the handle levers apart causes the cutting wheel to retract at the end of the cutting operation to release the cut-off top of the can.
