A method for enhancing a digital image involves selecting an image as an original image to be enhanced, creating by a pixel mapping procedure at least two images altered from the original image in a first image attribute, each of the altered images differing in the first image attribute, displaying the altered images to a user, and selecting by the user one of the images displayed as preferable to the other images displayed.

Apparatus and methods for enhancing digital images

A tone correction system, method and interface is described in which a digital image is initially filtered to obtain a corresponding locally averaged value for each pixel value of the image. The image is optimally filtered using a cone-type filter having a small filter radius and which favorably weights the center pixel values of the radius. Shadow and highlight values are obtained from selected shadow and highlight functions, respectively, using the locally averaged values. A tone function is derived from each of the shadow an highlight values for each pixel. Each pixel value of the image is then remapped according to its derived shadow and highlight tone functions. The tone corrected image can be reinteratively corrected by adjusting parameters of the shadow and highlight functions and remapping the image data until a desired image quality is achieved.

General purpose image enhancement algorithm which augments the visual perception of detail in digital images

A method of spatially filtering an image using an adaptive convolution filter is disclosed. The adaptive convolution filter has two major properties. First, size of the convolution filter adapts to the resolution density of the image being filtered. Second, values of the filter dynamically vary depending on an adaptive value that, in turn, depends on the output resolution.

Method and apparatus for image processing using adaptive convolution filters

A digital image is reproduced by printing a set of test patterns with a print engine that produces banding artifacts; generating a parametric artifact model of the banding artifacts in the prints of the test patterns; modifying the digital image with the parametric artifact model; and using the print engine to make prints of the modified digital image. The modifications cause a reduction in visibility of banding artifacts in the prints of the modified digital image.
