A polyamide fiber that includes 0.3 to 2.0 weight percent kaolin clay having an average particle size of 0.1 to 2.0 microns, and less than 0.1 weight percent titanium dioxide, said weight percents being based on the weight of the fiber, and a method for making the same. The polyamide fiber is particularly useful as a carpet fiber.

A flame retardant polyamide is prepared and used to make a flame retardant carpet. The polyamide fiber has incorporated therein 0.01 to 2.9 weight percent zinc, 0.002 to 0.58 weight percent molybdenum, and 0.05 to 1.3 weight percent chlorine, and is made from a masterbatch containing 1 to 20 percent of the polyamide in the extruded fiber.

A dispersion is provided for incorporation with a synthetic fiber-forming polymer. The dispersion comprises a polymer additive having an average diameter of up to 50 microns at a temperature of 25.degree. C., a carrier, and a thickener selected from the group consisting of dibenzylidene sorbitol and silica having an ultimate particle size of 7 to 14 nanometers.

Dispersions and process for their incorporation with a synthetic fiber-forming polymer are provided. The dispersions comprise a polymer additive, such as titanium dioxide, and a carrier of either a C.sub.5 -C.sub.26 fatty acid ester of pentaerythritol or a C.sub.5 -C.sub.26 fatty acid ester of dipentaerythritol.

A dispersion is provided for incorporation with a synthetic fiber-forming polymer. The dispersion comprises a polymer additive, such as titanium dioxide, and a glyceride which is non-resin forming when exposed to certain temperatures and pressures for specified time periods and which has an average molecular weight of between about 600 and 2400.

A new composition has been found comprising an antistatic fiber selected from the group consisting of polyamide, polyester, polyurea, polyurethane, or polysulfonamide, said fiber containing between about one percent and about twelve percent by weight of at least one compound having a molecular weight above 1500 selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by the formulas: ##STR1## where R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are independently selected from nonovalent hydrocarbon radicals having 1 to 20 carbon atoms derived from aliphatic, aromatic, cycloaliphatic, aromaticaliphatic, heterocyclic hydrocarbons or --(C.sub.r H.sub.2r O).sub.m (C.sub.p H.sub.2p O).sub.q --H; R.sub.5 is at least one of the alkylene difunctional radicals having 2 to 15 carbon atoms and a radical selected from ##STR2## R.sub.6, R.sub.7, R.sub.8 and R.sub.9 are independently selected from R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, H or another monovalent hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 20 carbon atoms as defined for R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4,

Antistatic fiber containing multiple branched propoxylated-ethoxylated

It has been suggested that antistatic properties of fibers of polyamide could be improved by uniformly dispersing in the polyamide between about 1 percent and about 12 percent by weight of a predominantly branched, chain-extended propylene oxide-ethylene oxide copolymer based on a diamine. However, with incorporation of this antistatic additive in the polyamide, serious problems have been encountered in melt-spinning due to the frequent occurrence of 'nubs' or enlarged places in the extruded polyamide filament. It has now been found that the occurrence of said nubs in the antistatic polyamide fiber can be greatly reduced by dispersing in the polymer about 0.5 to 12% by weight, based on the weight of the antistatic agent, of a phenol compound represented by the formula: ##STR1## where n is 2 to 6. In comparative tests with antistatic yarns containing various commercially available hindered phenol compounds, the yarns of the present invention showed significantly greater breaking strength retention after exposure to light in standard tests.
