A variable displacement compressor for an air conditioning system includes a suction throttle valve. The suction throttle valve includes a housing with a cavity formed therein. A first piston reciprocatingly disposed in the cavity is configured to cause a variable restriction of a flow of refrigerant through a suction inlet formed in the housing. The suction inlet provides fluid communication between a suction port and the cavity formed in the housing. The refrigerant flows through the suction port in a direction that is not parallel to a direction the piston reciprocates within the cavity. The suction throttle valve is configured to increase the restriction in the suction inlet when a crankcase pressure associated with the variable displacement compression is increased relative to an external suction pressure of the refrigerant entering the suction throttle valve.

A compressor including a hollow housing having a suction chamber, a discharge chamber, and a crank chamber formed therein. A first fluid flow path provided within the compressor facilitates a flow of the working fluid from the crank chamber to the suction chamber. A second fluid flow path provided within the compressor facilitates a flow of a mixture of the working fluid and a lubricating fluid from the crank chamber to the suction chamber, wherein the second fluid flow path is selectively opened and closed by an annular sleeve.

Oil management system for a compressor

A rear housing for a compressor reduces NVH without increasing the overall size of the compressor or inducing flow loss. Generally, the compressor includes a cylinder block receiving lower pressure fluid from the rear housing and providing higher pressure fluid back to the rear housing. The rear housing includes an annular outer wall and an annular inner wall defining a suction chamber and a discharge chamber. An inlet is in fluid communication with the suction chamber. An outlet is in fluid communication with the discharge chamber. The outlet includes a discharge passageway having a tubular member projecting into the discharge chamber. The tubular member is defined by a side wall and a closed end wall. The side wall includes a plurality of holes fluidically connecting the discharge chamber and the discharge passageway.

A variable displacement compressor is provided. The compressor has a crankcase, a plurality of pistons, a swash plate, and a rotor assembly. The crankcase has a plurality of chambers for receiving a fluid. The plurality of pistons are disposed within the cylinder block and are configured for reciprocal movement within the plurality of chambers to pump the fluid. The swash plate is slidably coupled to the plurality of pistons and has a first hinge member extending from a surface of the swash plate. The first hinge member has a surface that has a cam profile. The rotor assembly has a rotor shaft and a rotor plate. The rotor plate has a second hinge member extending from a surface of the rotor plate, whereby the surface of the first member is configured to slide and rotate over the second hinge member forming a hinge about which the swash plate rotates.

A method for controlling a vehicle air-conditioning system for cooling an interior of a vehicle is disclosed. The vehicle air conditioning system has a compressor coupled to an electronic control valve. The method includes reading a user manipulatable switch, determining a desired vehicle interior temperature based on the read user manipulatable switch, reading a plurality of sensors indicative of an interior and an exterior climate of the vehicle, determining a heat load on the vehicle air conditioning system, determining a desired evaporator discharge temperature, evaluating a humidity level inside the vehicle by determining a humidity ratio, filtering the updated electronic control valve duty cycle to obtain a new electronic control valve duty cycle based on the desired evaporator discharge temperature, and sending the new electronic control valve duty cycle to a compressor controller, wherein the controller is in communication with the electronic control valve and commands the valve to operate at the new duty cycle.

Electronic control strategy for A/C compressor

A swashplate-type compressor is provided. The compressor has a housing member that defines a plurality of grooves having features that allow the grooves to direct lubricating oil splashed against the housing member toward a central opening that houses a bearing and shaft. Preferably, the grooves comprise an annular groove and a series of oil collection grooves emanating outward from the annular groove. Each oil collection groove has a first wall that is substantially perpendicular to the plane of the housing member and a second wall that is angled with respect to both the first wall and the plane of the housing member. Also, each oil collection groove is in fluid communication with the annular groove. The housing member may further define one or more axial holes disposed within the annular groove.
