A battery (10) contains a base portion (12) that is shaped generally rectangular parallelpiped. The bottom face (18) of the base portion (12) contains a raised notch portion (22) at the first end (14) of the base portion directly beneath an upper ledge (20) that extends along the perimeter of the first end. The first end (14) contains two keyed recesses (24) that extend from an upper ledge (20) to the notch portion (22) of the bottom face (18). A blade connector (26) is located between the two keyed recesses (24) at the intersection of the notch portion (22) and the first end (14). The bottom face (18) contains two apertures (28) for receiving pin shaped positive and negative cell terminals. The second end (16) contains a resiliently attached latch member (30). A corresponding battery well (40) contains opposite first and second ends (44) and (46), a bottom floor (48), and a rim portion (50) that extends along the first end. The bottom floor (48) contains a raised step portion (52) located directly beneath the overhanging rim (50) at the first end. The first end (44) contains two protrusions (54) that span from the step portion (52) to the overhanging rim (50). A blade connector (56) is located on the step portion (52) between the two protrusions (54) at the first end (44). The bottom floor (48) contains two banana plug cell terminals (58), near the second end (46). Three retractable contact pins (60) are aligned between the two banana plug cell terminals (58) in the bottom floor (48). The second end (46) contains an overhanging flange (62) that is bisected by a central indentation (64).

Defibrillator with retractable hooks

A portable defibrillator having a defibrillator circuit, a body for housing a defibrillator circuit, and a hook coupled to the body is disclosed. The hook is positionable in an extended position and a retracted position. When in the extended position, the hook is poised to receive a member of an external structure, such as a gurney or hospital bed, and thereby enables the defibrillator to hang from the external structure. The body of the defibrillator may provide a deflectable member positioned to engage a depression formed in the outer surface of the hook when the hook is in the extended position, thus retaining the hook in the extending position. In a similar fashion, the deflectable member may be used to retain the hook in the retracted position. A user interface panel may be disposed on the front of the body of the defibrillator for providing information to and receiving information from a user of the defibrillator. The user interface panel is oriented on the front of the body to face at an upward angle relative to the base. Furthermore, electrical connection sites for coupling external electronic instruments to the defibrillator may also be provided. The electrical connection sites are recessed back from the front of the defibrillator and are further disposed on a panel extending outward from a side of the defibrillator. A method of suspending a portable defibrillator from an external structure by coupling a selectively positionable hook to the defibrillator and hanging the defibrillator from the external structure via the hook is also disclosed.

Defibrillator

An apparatus for connecting first and second physiological instrument components. The first component has an exterior first surface, and the second component has an exterior second surface. The apparatus comprises means forming a plurality of mutually parallel blades extending outward at the first surface at an acute angle with respect to a direction normal to the first surface, and means forming a plurality of mutually parallel slots extending inwardly at the second surface at the acute angle with respect to a direction normal to the second surface. The slots are sized and spaced to receive the blades to thereby connect the components. Latch means are provided for selectively latching one of the blades in its corresponding slot, and for preventing unlatching of the components when only one of the components is supported. In a preferred embodiment, the acute angle is approximately 75.degree..

A defibrillator adapted for use with accessory cassettes. In one embodiment, the defibrillator comprises a body, a pair of electrodes, means for mounting the electrodes to the body, means for mounting an accessory device to the body, and contact means for electrically connecting the electrode elements to the accessory device when the electrodes and accessory device are mounted to the body. The defibrillator may also include a test load, and the contact means may be adapted to electrically connect the test load to the electrode elements when the accessory device is not mounted to the body and to break the electrical connection between the test load and the electrode elements when the accessory device is mounted to the body. In one embodiment, the accessory device comprises an adapter for connecting an accessory electrode set to the defibrillator.
