A nominal diameter of the axial travel area is greater than that of the axial non-travel area. A plurality of annular grooves is formed in the two discontinuous axial widths of the cylindrical bore.

The cutting tool includes a cylindrical body and one or more axial rows of cutting elements, which project outwardly from and are situated radially to the circumference of the cylindrical body. Each cutting element of each row includes one or more pocket cutting elements and one or more groove cutting elements. Each pocket cutting element includes a cutting surface. A method is disclosed for preparing a surface for mechanically securing a spray coating to a surface. A first series of grooves formed in the surface are intersected with a second series of grooves formed in the surface. A plurality of barbs are formed at the intersections. The spray coating is mechanically secured to the barbs that overhang the first series of grooves. The surface includes the first series of grooves and the second series of groves that intersect the first series of groves. The second series of groves form an undercut portion, or barb, at the intersections of the grooves that mechanically anchor the spray coating.

A method for applying a coating includes: obtaining a subject cylindrical part including an inner subject coated surface applied using a spraying device at a first operating condition, the inner subject coated surface including a longitudinal axis and a cross-section, the cross-section intersecting the longitudinal axis at a center point and including end points located on an outer perimeter; measuring the inner subject coated surface to obtain subject coating data including distance values, each being a distance between the center point and one of the end points; comparing the subject coating data to standard coating data to obtain comparison data; and adjusting the spraying device based on the comparison data to have a second operating condition different from the first operating condition.

An apparatus for extruding helical teeth in a gear blank includes a press including a die plate and a die base, the die plate being movable along an axis relative to the die base, the die base supporting the gear blank. A mandrel, aligned with the axis and moveable with the die plate along the axis, includes a surface that includes helical die teeth. A servo motor drives the mandrel in rotation about the axis to the required helix angle as the mandrel moves axially relative to the gear blank.

A system for extruding teeth in a workpiece includes a first mandrel supported on a first press and including first die teeth that produce partially formed teeth on the workpiece as the first die teeth are extruded into the workpiece by the first press, a second mandrel supported on a second press and including second die teeth that produce fully formed teeth on the workpiece as the second die teeth are extruded into the workpiece by the second die station, and a transfer system for supporting and carrying the workpiece with the lower die assembly from the first press to the second press.

An apparatus for extruding teeth in a blank includes a press that includes a lower die plate for supporting the blank thereon, and upper die plate that moves along an axis relative to the lower die plate. A mandrel, aligned with the axis, moves with the upper die plate along the axis, and includes die teeth which form gear teeth to net shape by back extrusion. An impingement ring, located between the upper die plate and the blank, has an opening that allows the die teeth of the mandrel to contact the blank, and includes a stinger that forces material of the blank toward the axis during the forming cycle.

A recirculation plenum for passage of spent treatment fluid from and fresh treatment fluid to a treatment chamber may contain a thermal control source, a chemical control source, and a blower to provide predetermined programmable temperatures and chemical environments to articles in the treatment chamber. Decreasing cross sectional areas along the length of the treatment chamber cause introduction of fresh treatment fluid at different locations along the length of the treatment chamber to achieve desired uniform thermal and chemical treatment of articles along the length of the treatment chamber.
