A thermoplastic polyester composition comprising, based on the total weight of the composition, a chlorine- and bromine-free combination of: from 40 to 60 wt % of a polyester; from 25 to 35 wt % of a reinforcing filler; from 2 to 8 wt % of a flame retardant synergist selected from the group consisting of melamine polyphosphate, melamine cyanurate, melamine pyrophosphate, melamine phosphate, and combinations thereof; from 5 to 15 wt % of a phosphinate salt flame retardant; from more than 0 to less than 5 wt % of an impact modifier component comprising a poly(ether-ester) elastomer and a (meth)acrylate impact modifier; from more than 0 to 5 wt % poly(tetrafluoroethylene) encapsulated by a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer; from more than 0 to 2 wt % of a stabilizer; wherein the thermoplastic polyester composition contains less than 5 wt % of a polyetherimide.

Flame resistant polyester compositions, method of manufacture, and articles thereof

A thermoplastic polyester composition comprising, based on the total weight of the composition, a chlorine- and bromine-free combination of: from 40 to 60 wt % of a modified poly(1,4-butylene terephthalate); from 25 to 35 wt % of a reinforcing filler; from 2 to 8 wt % of a flame retardant synergist selected from the group consisting of melamine polyphosphate, melamine cyanurate, melamine pyrophosphate, melamine phosphate, and combinations thereof; from 5 to 15 wt % of a phosphinate salt flame retardant; from more than 0 to less than 5 wt % of an impact modifier component comprising a poly(ether-ester) elastomer and a (meth)acrylate impact modifier; from more than 0 to 5 wt % poly(tetrafluoroethylene) encapsulated by a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer; from more than 0 to 2 wt % of a stabilizer; wherein the thermoplastic polyester composition contains less than 5 wt % of a polyetherimide.

Flame resistant polyester compositions, method of manufacture, and articles therof

A composition comprising a clear thermoplastic blend comprising: (a) a polycarbonate component; and (b) a polyester component comprising (i) a polyester based substantially on 1,4 cyclohexane dimethanol and terephthalic acid monomer units, (ii) copolymers polyester based substantially on 1,4 cyclohexane dimethanol and terephthalic acid monomer units and modified with up to 25 mol % of copolymerizable acid and/or diol monomers, and (iii) combinations thereof. The polycarbonate component and the polyester component are present in sufficient proportions to form a molding composition capable of being molded into an article that exhibits transparency and structural integrity after the article is exposed to a caustic aqueous environment for at least 70 hours. The invention also relates to articles made from the composition, methods for making the compositions, and methods for using articles.

Transparent polycarbonate-polyester blends with improved performance under caustic aqueous environments

A thermoplastic polyester composition comprises, based on the total weight of the composition, from 20 to 95 wt. % of a polyester comprising a poly(alkylene terephthalate); from 1 to 35 wt. % of a phosphorous flame retardant consisting of a phosphinate of the formula (I)[(R)(R(PO)&#x2014;O]M&#x2003;&#x2003;(I),a diphosphinate of the formula (II)[(O&#x2014;POR)(R)(POR&#x2014;O)]M&#x2003;&#x2003;(II), and/ora polymer derived from the phosphinate of formula (I) or the diphosphinate of the formula (II); from 0.1 to less than 20 wt. % of a copolyetherester; from 0.1 to 5 wt. % of an anti-dripping agent; from 0 to 4.5 wt. % of a reinforcing fiber; and from 0 to 5 wt. % of an additive selected from the group consisting of a mold release agent, an antioxidant, a thermal stabilizer, and a UV stabilizer.

Thermoplastic polyester compositions, methods of manufacture, and articles thereof

A composition comprising a polysiloxane polycarbonate block copolymer; a cycloaliphatic polyester; and a polycarbonate that is different from the polycarbonate block copolymer, having a weight average molecular weight of less than about 20,000 Daltons. The compositions have high flow at low temperatures and good impact properties. The compositions are useful for the manufacture of components for handheld electronic devises such as cellular telephones.
