A method for threading a closure having cylindrical walls which includes securing the closure in a stationary nest, inserting a threading tool having indentions on the outside thereof into the interior of the closure, moving the closure into a ring having projecting threads on the inside thereof around the outside walls of said closure, moving the threading tool into contact with the interior portion of the closure upon which threads are to be formed, and moving the threading tool around the interior portion of the stationary closure in an orbital path to form threads in the closure without rotating the threading tool about the threading tool axis.

An apparatus for threading a closure which includes a vertically movable nest for receiving a closure shell and a vertically movable threading tool which includes a cylindrical threading member having threads on the outside thereof which is receivable within the shell and is movable in an orbital path to produce threads on an inside curl that has been previously formed on the closure shell.

An apparatus for forming a thread about the sidewall of a closure is disclosed. The apparatus features a nest for holding the closure and a circular tool fittable within the closure while it is in the nest. The nest and the circular tool have cooperating die means so that when the circular tool achieves planetary motion the die means coact one with the other to form a thread on the closure.

A metal cap or closure having a smooth, rounded edge. The smooth, rounded edge is formed by contacting the rough edge of the cap or closure with a plurality of moving metal spheres. The apparatus for forming the smooth, rounded edge includes a plate in which the spheres are rotatably mounted and a holder for holding the closure over the spheres so that the edge of the closure contacts the rotating spheres.

An oxygen-scavenging system for use in a closure for containers is disclosed. The system is in the form of a closure liner that incorporates a catalyst disposed between an oxygen permeable barrier and a water absorbent backing member. The backing member rests against the inside of the closure and the oxygen permeable barrier rests against the mouth of the container and the catalyst is sandwiched between the backing member and the barrier. The backing member may be porous and the closure may be perforated to allow water to escape.

Closure with oxygen scavenging system

A child-resistant container and closure is disclosed. The container has multiple helical threads with each thread having a ratchet portion at its start end. The closure features a like number of helical threads for cooperation with the container threads. The closure threads have adjacent their terminal ends at least one ratchet tooth for cooperation with the ratchet portion of the closure threads. Means is also provided for disengaging the ratchet teeth with the ratchet portion by providing for downward axial movement of the closure.
