The invention relates to a rapid method for estimating the dry matter content of a fruit or vegetable. The method comprises drying a sample of the fruit or vegetable on a support and measuring the dry matter content, wherein the whole method can be carried out in less than 2 hours. This compares to the industry standard method for assessing dry matter in horticultural products which typically takes 6-48 hours.

Method for assessing dry matter in horticultural products

A system () for determining a property of an object () comprises an inducing arrangement (), a detector () and a processor. The inducing arrangement () is configured to generate an impulse of fluid and for directing the impulse of fluid towards the object to induce a physical vibration of the object (). The inducing arrangement () does not contact the objectwhen inducing the physical vibration of the object (). The detector () is configured to detect the physical vibration of the object (). The detector () does not contact the objectwhen detecting the physical vibration of the object (). The processor is coupled to the detector () for determining the property of the object () based on at least the detected physical vibration.
