A process for the production of acetylopyridines of the formula (1): by reacting a pyridinecarboxylic ester of the formula (II): wherein Ris C-alkyl, with acetic acid in the gas phase in the presence of a catalyst. The active material of the catalyst is titanium dioxide and at least one alkali or alkaline earth metal oxide, and it is supported on an alumina-silica support having an apparent porosity of at least 50 percent. The process has the advantage of producing only small amounts of by-products (e.g, pyidine).

Process and catalyst for the preparation of acetylpyridines

Nicotinic acid is produced from aqueous solutions of ammonium nicotinate by spray-drying. The nicotinic acid can be freed from residual ammonium nicotinate by a thermal post-treatment in a fluidized bed or under reduced pressure. The process is suitable in particular for the work-up of the reaction mixture produced in the oxidation of 3-methylpyridine with atmospheric oxygen, with the ammonia and, if appropriate, the water, being able to be recycled. Nicotinic acid (&ldquo;vitamin PP&rdquo;) is an important additive to foodstuffs and feedstuffs.

Process for the preparation of nicotinic acid

A process for preparing nicotinamide, wherein, in the first stage, 2-methyl-1,5-diaminopentane is catalytically converted into 3-picoline, then the 3-picoline is converted via an ammonoxidation into 3-cyanopyridine and, finally, the 3-cyanopyridine is converted microbiologically into the nicotinamide.
