A method is provided in association with a managed system having a substantial number of resources. The method includes the step of selecting an attribute that is common to all of the resources, wherein each resource has a status in regard to the selected attribute that is one of a plurality of prespecified statuses that are available for the attribute. The method further includes compressing the group of resources into a set of subgroups, wherein each subgroup corresponds to a different prespecified status of the plurality, and each resource having a given status is placed into the subgroup that corresponds to the given status. Each of the subgroups is represented by a display element on a single computer display screen, and specified information is displayed with each display element, wherein the specified information for a display element pertains to all of the resources placed into the subgroup that are represented by the display element.

Compressing topological information pertaining to managed resources to enhance visualization

A function is added to a Web page that communicates with a refresh control helper. The Web page is associated with a session identifier. If an information update that affects the Web page occur, an update notification is associated with the session identifier. Periodically, the function in the Web page sends the session identifier to the refresh control helper. The refresh control helper calls a refresh controller and passes the session identifier. The refresh controller checks a data store to determine if update notifications associated with the session identifier have been received. If updates are available for the page, the refresh controller informs the refresh control helper that new data is available and removes any update notifications for the session identifier from the data store. The refresh control helper then informs the function in the Web page that new data is available and the function requests a page reload.

Timely update of information displayed within a portal

A method for displaying graphical data includes displaying a first graph of a first data set, receiving a first open drag command indicative of a first handle position on the first graph, positioning a first handle on the first graph based on a first close drag command and receiving a first positioning location. The method further includes receiving a second open drag command indicative of a second handle position on the first graph, positioning a second handle on the first graph based on a second close drag command, receiving a second positioning location signal based on the positioning of the second handle, determining a second data set based on the first positioning location signal and second positioning location signal, and displaying a second graph of the second data set, wherein the first graph and second graph are concurrently displayed in a graph window.
