The present invention relates to accessing data on computer networks, and more particularly to accessing such data via remote terminals. The present invention provides that unsolicited information is received via a first communications network on a communications device. Based on that information, the user can request further information via a second communications network.

Method and apparatus for accessing data

An object delivery session, such as a File Delivery over Unidirectional Transport (FLUTE) session, is joined and a description of a plurality of objects provided by the session are provided. The description indicates one or more groupings of the plurality of objects. An interesting object is determined from the plurality of objects. A method and system for performing multicast broadcast handover in a wireless data network are disclosed. Each cell broadcasts administrative announcements over a logical channel to mobile terminals. The announcements indicate which multicast broadcasts are available in specified cells, as well as connection information for each cell. The mobile terminals may tune to a multicast broadcast as defined by the administrative announcements. While tuned to the multicast, the mobile terminal continues to receive administrative announcements. As the broadcast fades out or is otherwise interrupted, the mobile terminal can retune to the same multicast broadcast in another cell, based on the cell connection information included in the previously received administrative announcements.

Multicast session handover

The invention relates to a mechanism for performing multicast transmission in a cellular network. In order to enable establishment of resources only in cells containing members of the multicast group and to avoid congestion on the uplink channel, a multicast service notification is transmitted to mobile stations, thereby informing members of the multicast group of an upcoming multicast session. The moment for a response to said multicast service notification is selected in the mobile stations and a presence report is sent from at least one of said mobile stations at the response moment of said at least one mobile station. The presence report or reports are received within a radio access network, and radio resources are established for multicast transmission in a cell of the cellular network when the presence report(s) received in said cell meet(s) predetermined criteria.

The invention relates to a method for file delivery in a system capable of one-to-many transmission, the method comprising transferring one or more data blocks from a sender to at least one receiver, identifying a data block expected to be received but not received at all or incorrectly received at the receiver, and taking action to re-transmit said data block. A compression context for a plurality of packets is established with a receiving device. Each of these packets is associated with one or more reliable multicast protocols, such as the Layered Coding Transform (LCT) protocol, the Asynchronous Layered Coding (ALC) protocol, the FLUTE protocol, the MUPPET protocol, and the NACK-Oriented Reliable Multicast (NORM) protocol. Upon establishment of the compression context, a compressed packet is generated for one of the plurality of packets and transmitted to the receiving device. The compressed packet has a reduced number of bits in its header. Upon receipt, the receiving device decompresses the compressed packet based on the compression context.

A hybrid method for a service provider to transmit decryption information (e.g., algorithms, parameters, keys) to clients in a secure manner and at low cost for use in decrypting broadcast services. The service provider uses a bi-directional channel (e.g., a GPRS channel) to receive service requests, authenticate clients and transmit currently valid decryption information (and, optionally, future decryption information) necessary to decrypt a broadcast service. The service provider transmits the encrypted service on a unidirectional channel (e.g., a DVB-T channel). The service provider preferably also changes the encryption of the service with time, and, as it does, transmits updated decryption information to its clients on the unidirectional channel. The updated decryption information is encrypted using the currently valid decryption information and may also include future decryption information and synchronization information.
