The present invention relates to a resealable container comprising: a polyethylene terephthalate-based container body comprising a bottom side and at least one upwardly extending sidewall, wherein the sidewall terminates in an open end of the container; a flexible film sealed to the container body, over the open end of the container, wherein the flexible film comprises: a polyethylene-based first film layer; a pressure sensitive adhesive layer adjacent a lower surface of the first film layer; a polyolefin plastomer skin layer adjacent a lower surface of the pressure sensitive adhesive layer, wherein the first layer, pressure sensitive adhesive layer, and skin layer are coextruded; and a heat seal layer printed onto a lower surface of the skin layer and heat sealed to the container body.

Resealable film

A flexible laminate for a package is described that includes an integrated one-way valve that allows gas generated within the package (e.g., carbon dioxide outgas) to be released to the external environment, while at the same time preventing environmental elements from entering the package. The valve is defined by the layers that form the flexible laminate, as opposed to being a separate structure that is attached to the flexible laminate. In particular, first and second cut lines are defined in a valve area of the first and second film layers of the flexible laminate structure in an offset manner. Oil is pattern-applied to one or both film layers in the valve area, and an opposing surface of one or both of the film layers further includes a surface treatment that decreases the amount of surface energy between the film layers to allow the valve to open at the desired pressure.

A method for preparing a scored flexible structure that has utility in the construction of packaging structures, including steps of: (i) providing a structure as a web of flexible material; (ii) enhancing a thickness of the structure in a discrete region thereof by applying a substantially all-solids electron-beam-curable polymer material in fluid form onto the discrete region, the discrete region occupying a minor percentage of a total surface area of the structure; (iii) curing the polymer material by irradiating the polymer material with an electron beam, thereby forming an EB-cured polymer region; and (iv) forming a score line through a thickness of the EB-cured polymer region and through the thickness of the structure.
