One or more techniques to reduce or eliminate the false depth of objects that move along the axis of ocular separation when displayed using time division multiplexing. Experiments can be performed to determine a perceived depth of an object moving with known velocity. Then, when rendering stereoscopic image pairs, the location of the object can be modified to change the perceived stereoscopic depth of the object to compensate for the false depth. In one technique, the images can be displayed with alternating left- and right-precedence to reduce the perception of false depth.

Temporal cadence perturbation for time-division stereoscopic displays

Test patterns and associated techniques for testing the fidelity of color processing are disclosed. One set of embodiments provide a test pattern that exhibits a large number of spatial interactions (e.g., edges) between colors corresponding to triples of constant value RGB primaries that incorporate a specific primary. Another set of embodiments provide an animated sequence of test patterns that exhibit temporal interactions between the colors identified above. Yet another set of embodiments provide a test pattern comprising a plurality of zones, where distinct subsets of the zones are configured to exhibit independent visual changes in response to adjustments of specific color processing controls. Using these test patterns, users may more easily test the fidelity of color processing (such as color dematrixing), and may more easily calibrate color processing controls accordingly.

Moving color test pattern

A computer-implemented method for generating images. The method includes receiving first and second target images. The method further includes computing a delta image based on a difference between the first target image and the second target image and a technique for multiplexing a first display image with the delta image, where the first display image multiplexed with the delta image, when viewed by a person in an ambient setting, is perceived as the second target image. Advantageously, a hidden image is obscured from an ambient observer, while still providing the ambient observer with a target image that is intended to be perceived.

System and method for steganographic image display

A system and method for stereoscopic pair layers includes aligning a left eye image and a right eye image of a first stereo image pair layer according to a first calibrated offset to produce an aligned first stereo image pair layer that appears at a first depth in a display environment. A left eye image and a right eye image of a second stereo image pair layer are aligned according to a second calibrated offset to produce an aligned second stereo image pair layer that appears at a second depth in the display environment that is different than the first depth. The aligned first stereo image pair layer and the aligned second stereo image pair layer combined to produce a calibrated stereoscopic image that is suitable for display.

Combining stereo image layers for display

A method for color grading within a component color space associated with a display includes receiving a source image comprising a plurality of pixels, wherein each pixel is associated with a color comprising a plurality of color component values in the component color space, wherein the component color space comprises RGB, and wherein a pixel is associated with a color inside a gamut of the display but outside a gamut of a target media, receiving a color grading signal from a user, modifying the color associated with the pixel from the plurality of pixels in response to the color grading signal, to form a graded image comprising the pixel, wherein the pixel is associated with a graded color comprising a plurality of color component values, displaying the graded image on the display to the user, automatically performing a gamut remapping of the graded color associated with the pixel, to form a gamut remapped image comprising the pixel, wherein the pixel is associated with a gamut remapped color comprising a plurality of color component values, wherein at least one color component value of the graded color is substantially similar to one color component value of the gamut remapped color, and displaying the gamut remapped image on the display to the user, wherein the gamut remapped image comprises a plurality of pixels, wherein each pixel from the plurality of pixels is associated with a color within a gamut of the target media.

Methods and apparatus for color grading with gamut match preview

Test patterns and associated techniques for testing the fidelity of intensity reproduction are disclosed. One set of embodiments provide test patterns that incorporate anti-aliased features such as anti-aliased edges or lines. In various embodiments, these anti-aliased features expose undesirable, nonlinear transformations of the test patterns by one or more devices in an image output system or chain. Using these test patterns, users may more easily evaluate the end-to-end gamma response of the system, and may more easily calibrate gamma controls accordingly. Additionally, users may more easily identify nonlinear image resampling performed in gamma, rather than linear, space.

Display calibration method and apparatus for exposing errors in gamma mapping and image scaling

A system and method for characterizing and adjusting an offset between displayed stereo image pairs allows for calibration of the stereo image content for each display environment. The stereo image content is typically authored assuming a particular display image size. When the stereo image content is displayed in a display environment that does not conform to the particular display image size the offset between displayed stereo image pairs is increased or decreased, resulting in a viewing experience that is different than intended. In some cases, the viewer may experience discomfort due to eye strain or eye fatigue. Adjusting the offset during the playback of the stereo image content may improve the viewer experience.

Stereo image convergence characterization and adjustment

A method for color grading an image within RGB color space including color values includes receiving a source image having first pixels, wherein second pixels from the first pixels are associated with colors within a first gamut but not a second gamut, receiving a color grading signal, determining a graded image by automatically modifying the colors associated with second pixels to become modified colors in response to the color grading signal, wherein the modified colors are within the second gamut, and wherein at least one color component value of the colors of the second pixels is similar to at least one color component value of the modified colors of the second pixels, wherein ordinality of colors in the one color component of the second pixels in the source image are preserved in the modified colors in the graded image, and storing the color grading signal in a memory.
