This invention is for a highly efficient heat transfer unit and method for heat transfer for an air conditioning refrigeration unit. The invention has a plurality of condenser coils that stand generally vertically upright (with up to 20&#xb0; tilt to optimize downward water flow with air being pulled across) between a splash louver and an evaporative fill material. The evaporative fill material and the splash louver transfer heat from the water by air cross flow to make the air conditioning unit very efficient and reduces the amount of copper coils needed. The condenser coils are cooled by water flowing down through them and into a sump. The condenser coils are also cooled by air pulled across them by a fan mounted on the top of the air conditioning unit. The sump in the bottom of the unit has a wall that directs the water in it to a water pump that then sends the water to the water distribution pipe. The water pipe covers the water distribution member with water, which then allows the water to flow down the condenser coils. The large amount of heat that is transferred from the condenser coils to the water and the air cross flow is what enables the air conditioning unit to be so efficient. A low pressure drop of refrigerant in the condensing coils, the large surface area, and horizontal air flow also helps the air conditioning unit to be efficient.

Heat exchanger apparatus and method for evaporative cooling refrigeration unit

An air conditioner operating on a compressor-condenser-evaporator circuit utilizes water cooled by air flowing over an evaporative medium through which the water flows to cool a condenser coil located in a continuous serpentine channel in a sump member located at the lower side of the air conditioner unit. The condenser coils include offset intertwined upright coils that provide a large heat exchange surface with water flowing in the channel to a pump intake region of the sump. A pump is provided to supply the evaporative medium with water from the pump intake region of the sump for continuous circulation through the evaporative medium and the sump channel. A water distributor system supplies water uniformly to the top area of the evaporative medium by creating a film of water that is evenly distributed across the top of the evaporative medium. A raised area of the sump provides access to the interior of the evaporative medium without the need for a water sealing arrangement and a central platform supports the refrigerant compressor, pump and other accessories above the sump channel. The offset relationship of the condenser coils promotes turbulent flow of water that enhances heat exchange between the intertwined coils and the water.

A heating and cooling air conditioning system includes serially arranged conductive and evaporative pad heat exchangers through which circulating air to be heated or cooled is moved by a blower. The conductive heat exchanger contains a liquid heat exchange medium that is selectively solar heated or cooled by an evaporative heat exchanger, for example, a cooling tower. A single tank reservoir is provided for the heat exchange medium. A singular air valve controls flow of air into the heat exchangers as well as flow of return air to exhaust. A domestic hot water heating tank is disclosed with a heat exchange loop provided in the solar heated heat exchange medium reservoir tank for heating the service hot water supply.

Air conditioner and heat dispenser

An evaporative cooler according to the invention comprises a one-piece, three-layer pad wrapped around an open-sided cylindrical barrel-like structure. Water is sprayed uniformly over the interior surface of the pad while a centrifugal blower draws air in through the pad from the outside. A novel base design renders it possible to replace the standard square base coolers with the cooler of the present invention. The cooler can be used either with downward or side delivery systems and can easily be adapted to being mounted in a window. The top, base, and barrel are separately fabricated of a non-heat conducting material and are so shaped that they can be nested or stacked for economy of space in storage or shipping.
