The present invention relates to fabric softening component comprising a clay, a flocculating agent, a surfactant and a carrier material. The carrier material is preferably a powdered or granular builder or alkalinity source. The component is preferably a spray-dried particle, extrudate or an agglomerate. It preferably comprises at least a sulphate and/or sulphonate surfactant, a zeolite and/or phosphate builder and a carbonate salt. Highly preferred is that the component also comprises a brightener.

Fabric softening component

The present invention relates to detergent compositions which comprise low levels of inorganic sulphate filler salts, but instead high levels of carbonate salts and a system to counter balance the carbonate. This system comprises a floculating agent and a clay. Preferably only very low levels of an inorganic sulphate salt are present. Preferably, also other salts or silicates are present, including phosphates and/or zeolites.

Detergent compositions

The present invention relates to detergent compositions which comprise a flocculating agent and an organophilic smectite clay whereof at least 30%, preferably at least 40% of the exchangeable cations in the clay is replaced by one or more long-chain organic cations, preferably having at least one long carbon chain of at least 10 or even 12 carbon atoms. The compositions provide improved fabric softening and deliver good cleaning.

The esters further contain terephthalate units, oxy-1,2-alkyleneoxy units (oxyethyleneoxy units preferred), and sulfoisophthalate units.

Detergent compositions comprising soil release agents

A cleaning composition contains (a) a detersive surfactant and (b) a poly(amino acid) compound or a precursor thereof, the said component (b) being protected from contact with a level of alkalinity as would cause degradation thereof. The component (b) may be stabilized by, for example, coating it with an organic acid compound or with a film-forming polymer; by agglomerating it with a controlled level of alkaline or alkaline-reacting compound (e.g. sodium carbonate); by spray-granulating it in admixture with a nonionic surfactant; by encapsulating it with a silicone-based resin; or by incorporating it in a composition that is non-alkaline. The storage stability of the compositions is thereby improved.
