Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a coated film structure including a substrate layer, an overcoat layer, and at least one intermediate layer disposed between the substrate layer and the overcoat layer. The substrate layer includes a polymer film substrate, the overcoat layer includes an acid-functional copolymer, and the at least one intermediate layer includes aluminum oxide. The coated film structure has an oxygen transmission rate of less than about 3.00 cm/m/day at 50% relative humidity and 23&#xb0; C. as measured in accordance with ASTM D3985. Further, the coated film structure has a water vapor transmission rate of less than 2.50 g/m/day at 90% relative humidity and 37.8&#xb0; C. as measured in accordance with ASTM E-398.

Acid-functional copolymer coatings for polymeric substrates

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a coated film structure including a substrate layer, an overcoat layer, and at least one intermediate layer disposed between the substrate layer and the overcoat layer. The substrate layer includes a polymer film substrate, the overcoat layer includes polyvinyl alcohol, and the at least one intermediate layer includes aluminum oxide. The substrate layer has a thickness from 1 &#x3bc;m to 120 &#x3bc;m and the overcoat layer has a dry coat weight of from about 0.05 g/mto about 1.5 g/m. The coated film structure has an oxygen transmission rate of less than about 0.70 cm/m/day at 90% relative humidity and 23&#xb0; C. as measured in accordance with ASTM D3985. Further, the coated film structure has a water vapor transmission rate of less than 1.00 g/m2/day at 90% relative humidity and 37.8&#xb0; C. as measured in accordance with ASTM E-398.

Coated film structures with an aluminum oxide intermediate layer

Lamination adhesives including an aqueous dispersion having a mixture of a polyamide and an ethylene acrylic acid copolymer are provided for use on a variety of substrates. In various embodiments, the aqueous dispersion is substantially free of plasticizers and non-aqueous organic solvents. Also provided is a method of forming a laminate adhesion between two substrates. The disclosure also describes a laminate structure comprising first and second substrates laminated together by the lamination adhesive, the lamination adhesive including a mixture of a polyamide and a copolymer of ethylene and acrylic acid.

Thermal lamination adhesive coatings for use on substrates

A primer coating is provided for use on polymeric substrates to enhance adhesion of liquid toner to the substrates for printing in an electrophotographic printing device. The primer coating includes a dispersion of a copolymer of ethylene and acrylic or methacrylic acid and a compatible adhesion enhancer comprising a hydrogenated rosin or rosin ester dispersion. The coating may also include additives such as wetting agents, antiblocking agents, matting agents, and waxes. The primer coating may be applied to a variety of polymeric substrates including polypropylene, biaxially oriented polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, and polyvinyl chloride.

Primer coating for enhancing adhesion of liquid toner to polymeric substrates

A primer coating is provided for use on polymeric substrates to enhance adhesion of liquid toner to the substrates for printing in an electrophotographic printing device. The primer coating is water-based and includes a dispersion of a copolymer of ethylene and acrylic or methacrylic acid, and a compatible adhesion enhancer selected from an aliphatic polyurethane dispersion, a hydrogenated hydrocarbon rosin or rosin ester dispersion, and an amorphous acrylic polymer dispersion. The coating may also include additives such as wetting agents, antiblocking agents, matting agents, and waxes. The primer coating may be applied to a variety of polymeric substrates including polypropylene, biaxially oriented polpypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, and polyvinyl chloride.

A coating is provided for enhancing low temperature heat sealability and providing high hot tack to polymeric substrates. The coating is water-based and includes a dispersion of a copolymer of ethylene and acrylic or methacrylic acid, and a compatible adhesion enhancer which is an aliphatic polyurethane emulsion. The coating may also include additives such as wetting agents, matting agents, antiblocking agents, and tackifying resins. The coating may be applied to a variety of polymeric substrates and may be heat sealed to itself, or to polymeric substrates, cellulosic substrates, and metal substrates.
