The present invention relates to novel (per)fluoropolyether (PFPE) polymer derivatives, a method for their manufacture and their use for providing an anti-soiling coating.

(Per)fluoropolyether derivatives

The present invention relates to a novel process for the synthesis of (per)fluoropolyether polymers, to certain novel (per)fluoropolyether polymers. The present invention also relates to the use of the (per)fluoropolyether polymers thus obtained as intermediate compounds for the manufacture of further polymers suitable for use as lubricants, notably for magnetic recording media (MRM).

(Per)fluoropolyether polymers

The present invention relates to a novel process for the synthesis of (per)fluoropolyether polymers and to certain novel (per)fluoropolyether polymers. The present invention also relates to the use the (per)fluoropolyether polymers thus obtained, as intermediate compounds for the manufacture of further polymers suitable for use as lubricants, notably for magnetic recording media (MRM).

Compounds [compounds (L)] comprising at least one monocyclic, polycyclic or polycondensed aromatic moiety [moiety (A*)], wherein: at least one carbon atom of moiety (A*) is substituted with a fluoropolyoxyalkene chain [chain (R)], said chain (R) comprising: a) a fluorocarbon segment having ether linkages in the main chain and b) at least one hydroxyl group and wherein: at least one other carbon atom of moiety (A*) is substituted with an electron-withdrawing group and mixtures thereof are herein disclosed. Disclosed are also a process for manufacturing compounds (L), a method for lubricating MRM comprising using compounds (L), a lubricant composition comprising one or more compounds (L) and a method for manufacturing a composition (C).

Aromatic compounds bearing hydroxyl-substituted (per)fluoropolyether chains

The present invention relates to a phosphazene compound [compound (L)] comprising a cyclophosphazene central core wherein each phosphorus atom of said core bears a substituent independently selected from: a) a chain (A), said chain (A) comprising a (per)fluoropolyether chain [chain (R)], one or more aromatic or heteroaromatic moieties [moiety/ies (Ar)] and, optionally, one or more hydroxy groups and b) a chain (B), said chain (B) comprising a (per)fluoropolyether chain [chain (R)] and one or more hydroxy groups with the proviso that at least one phosphorous atom of the central core is substituted with chain (A) and to mixtures of compounds (L). The invention further relates to methods for preparing compounds (L), to lubricant compositions comprising compounds (L) and to methods for lubricating magnetic recording media comprising applying a compound (L) or a lubricant compositions containing them to the surface of said medium.

The present invention relates to novel (per)fluoropolyether polymers and their use as lubricants, in particular for Magnetic Recording Media (MRM).

A method of manufacturing cyclophosphazenes PFPE derivatives to be used in the lubrication of magnetic recording media is herein provided. The method comprises: a) a (per)fluoropolyether (PFPE) polyol [PFPE (P)] comprising a fluoropolyoxyalkylene chain (R) having two chain ends, each chain end comprising at least one hydroxy group, and b) the corresponding alkoxide of perfluoropolyether (P) [PFPE (P)] wherein the equivalent concentration of PFPE (P) in PFPE (P) is lower than 30%, preferably ranging from 5% to 15%; 2) contacting mixture (M) with a perhalocyclophosphazene (CP) to provide a mixture (M1) containing an equivalent ratio of PFPE (P)/(CP) of at least 1; 3) allowing mixture (M1) to react until complete disappearance of P&#x2014;Cl groups to provide a mixture (M2); 4) submitting mixture (M2) to hydrolysis to provide a mixture (M3); 5) optionally removing (P) from mixture (M3) to provide a mixture (M4). A method of purifying mixture (M4) is also herein provided.

Method of manufacturing cyclophosphazene derivatives

The invention pertains to certain (per)fluoropolyether triazine derivatives comprising at least one triazine group and at least one fluoropolyoxyalkene chain (chain R) comprising a fluorocarbon segment having ether linkages in main chain, said chain Rcomprising at least one hydroxyl group, to a method for their manufacture and to their use in lubrication, in particular for lubricating sliding or moving parts of magnetic recording media.

The present invention relates to a process for increasing the content of bifunctional species in mixtures of non functional, mono- and bifunctional (per)fluoropolyethers which comprises the adsorption of a (per)fluoropolyether mixture onto an adsorbing stationary phase, a first desorption step with a supercritical fluid only and a second desorption step with the supercritical fluid and a mixture of a polar solvent.
