A hydrothermal electrolytic apparatus comprises a reaction cell for electrolyzing influent at high temperature and high pressure, wherein an overall surface area of a pair of electrodes located in the reaction cell per 1 mof the volume of the influent is 0.05 mor more. The hydrothermal electrolytic apparatus has two or more tubular reaction cells each having a metal inner wall serving as a cathode, and an anode is provided in each of the reaction cells. A hydrothermal electrolytic process comprises incorporating conductive particles into an influent to substantially increase a surface area of electrodes during hydrothermal electrolysis.

An object of the present invention is to provide a process and an apparatus for treating a gas containing reducing substances to efficiently degrade and remove the reducing substances. An object of the present invention is to provide a process and an apparatus for treating an aqueous medium at low running costs with a decreased electricity required for hydrothermal electrolytic reaction. The present invention proposes a two-step process comprising a first step of performing a conventional hydrothermal reaction or a conventional electrolytic reaction prior to hydrothermal electrolytic reaction to degrade readily degradable substances or ammonia or various electrolytically degradable organics and then a second step of performing hydrothermal electrolytic reaction to degrade the remaining organics, whereby the electricity consumed by hydrothermal electrolytic reaction in the second step can be greatly reduced.

Method and apparatus for treating aqueous medium containing organic

A waste containing organic solids is fed into a boiler after it has been subjected to a hydrothermal reaction treatment in the presence of water. A slurry containing the waste is held under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions to cause a hydrothermal reaction such that an acidic slurry is formed during part of or throughout the process of the hydrothermal reaction. Thereby the content of oxygen in the waste relative to carbon atoms in building molecules of the waste is reduced. This concurrently causes removal of halogens in said building molecule and transferring the halogens into the slurry. The slurry then is cooled and dewatered and fed into a combustion section of the boiler. The waste slurry to be subjected to the hydrothermal reaction can be sorted into two portions for separate storage. One portion is a waste slurry the pH of which will increase as a result of the hydrothermal reaction. The other portion is a waste slurry the pH of which will decrease during the hydrothermal reaction. The two slurries are combined together and subjected to the hydrothermal reaction, with their relative amounts of supply being adjusted such as to form an acidic slurry either during part of or throughout the process of the hydrothermal reaction. Wastes can be supplied as a mass of high heat value into the boiler in such a manner that organic matter is transferred by a smaller amount into the aqueous phase during the hydrothermal reaction, and there is no scale deposit on the surfaces of those areas of the system components in contact with the liquid.

Method for feeding wastes into a boiler

An improved apparatus for submerged grinding of wastes includes a vessel that is filled with an alkaline liquid and which has a mechanism for grinding a feed waste containing organic solids, a feeding mechanism for charging the feed waste into the vessel, a primary screening mechanism for filtering the liquid being discharged from the grinding mechanism and a secondary screening mechanism by which the waste/liquid mixture that has been filtered by the primary classification mechanism is freed of the liquid fraction such that the waste is converted into a slurry. The apparatus further includes a line by which the filtrate from the secondary classification mechanism is returned to the liquid with which the vessel is filled, a mechanism for adding an alkaline aqueous solution and/or particulate matter into the liquid with which the vessel is filled, a mechanism for detecting the pH of the liquid with which the vessel is filled, and a mechanism for adjusting the amount of addition of the alkaline aqueous solution and/or particulate matter into the liquid with the vessel is filled on the basis of the value detected by the pH detecting mechanism in order to ensure that the liquid with which the vessel is filled is maintained in an alkaline condition. Using this apparatus, submerged grinding of wastes can be accomplished over an extended period with the progress of putrefaction being retarded and the emission of malodor being suppressed with the resulting advantage of facilitated liquid maintenance.
