A method includes: performing spatio-temporal analysis on each frame of a video frame sequence; determining, based on the spatio-temporal analysis, how well a first region of a first frame of the video frame sequence meets a human-perception criterion; assigning, based on the identification, a bit weight for an encoder to apply in encoding the first region; and encoding, using the encoder, at least the first frame based on the spatio-temporal analysis, wherein the first region is encoded using the assigned bit weight.

Methods and systems for reducing web page load time using HTTP header compression are provided. A method for reducing web page load time includes preloading HTTP header keywords into a compression dictionary. The method also includes compressing one or more fields in an HTTP header corresponding with a web page request using the compression dictionary. The method further includes transmitting the compressed HTTP header over a network. A system for reducing web page load time includes a compression dictionary preloaded with HTTP header keywords. The system also includes a header compressor to compress one or more fields in an HTTP header using the compression dictionary, and a transmitter to transmit the compressed HTTP header over a network.

A system and machine-implemented method for communicating with a client device. A server receives a first request by a client device via a first communication protocol, wherein the first request establishes a NAT binding which defines a communication path from a server to the client device. The server sends a response to the received first request via the first communication protocol, wherein the response is directed to the client device based on the NAT binding. The server determines that the response is unsuccessful in reaching the client device. In response to the determination, the server transmits a communication to the client device via a second communication protocol which is different than the first communication protocol, wherein the communication instructs the client device to re-establish the NAT binding.

A system and method for facilitating packet loss recovery using an intermediary are provided. The system includes a first node configured to transmit a plurality of data packets, a second node configured to receive the plurality of data packets and a third node configured to act as an intermediary between the first node and the second node and is configured to receive one or more packets of the plurality of data packets transmitted from the first node to the second node before the one or more packets are transmitted to the second node, and determine if a packet loss event has occurred, wherein a packet loss event occurs if a first packet of the plurality of packets is lost during transmission from the first node to the second node and take an action with respect to the first packet if it determined that a packet loss event has occurred.

Reduction of web page load time using HTTP header compression

A proxy connect component establishes a connection with a proxy, and provides the proxy with a name of a host with which to establish a connection. A negotiation component negotiates a tunnel directly with the host, and a security component classifies the tunnel as at least one of a private-tunnel or a public-tunnel based at least in part on a set of privacy policies. If the tunnel is classified as a public-tunnel, then the proxy is provided a set of security credentials to inspect and/or modify data passing through the tunnel, or a NULL cipher is employed. If the tunnel is classified as a private-tunnel, then the proxy is not provided the security credentials to inspect and/or modify data passing through the tunnel.

Aspects of the invention provide systems and methods for reducing latency in TCP connections. A client computer may send a request for information to a server computer using TCP. In response, the server may transmit the information to the client device according to default TCP connection assumptions. The server may re-configure the TCP connection based on various network statistics identified by the characteristics of the exchange between the server and the client. The server may periodically provide the network statistics concerning the speed of the network connection between the server and the client to the client. This information may be stored in cache memory by the client device for later use. For example, the next time the client device requests information from the server, the server may request the cached network statistics. The server may use this information to determine how information should be transmitted to the client.

System and method of reducing network latency

A communications device and methods for terminating a communication session in a communications device. The method includes receiving a termination communication from a remote computing device. The termination communication indicates an intent by the remote computing device to terminate the communication session. The method also includes determining that one or more conditions exist under which the communications device should terminate the communication session without transmitting an acknowledgment communication to the remote computing device. The acknowledgement communication indicates an acknowledgment of the termination communication. The method further includes in response to determining that the one or more conditions exist, terminating the communication session on the communications device without transmitting the acknowledgment communication to the remote computing device.

Transmission protocol modification to maximize mobile device battery life

A content distribution network includes a proxy server in communication with one or more content distribution servers. The proxy server services connections to the content distribution servers from one or more client devices. The proxy server responds to changes in memory utilization for servicing the connections of the client devices. To respond to the changes in memory utilization, the proxy server may include a connection manager, a process manager, and a memory manager. The memory manager performs one or more operations to determine a memory pressure amount. The memory pressure amount may represent a ratio of the amount of memory allocated by the proxy server to the amount of memory available to the proxy server. Based on monitoring the memory pressure amount, the memory manager adjusts a connection serviceable amount that informs the connection manager of the number of potential connections the proxy server may service.

Managing connections for a memory constrained proxy server

A system is disclosed for enhancing video by use of a virtual surface. One or more positions are identified in a first image. These one or more positions are transformed to one or more locations in relation to the virtual surface. In subsequent video images (e.g. fields, frames, or other units), the one or more locations in relation to said virtual surface are transformed to one or more positions in the subsequent video images. The subsequent video images are enhanced based on the one or more transformed positions.

Enhancing video using a virtual surface

A system uses GPS receivers and other sensors to acquire data about one or more objects at an event. The data acquired by the GPS receivers and the sensors is used to determine various statistics about the objects and/or enhance a video presentation of the objects. In one embodiment, the acquired data is used to determine three dimensional positions of the objects, determine the positions of images of the objects in a video and enhance the video accordingly. One exemplar use of the present invention is with a system for tracking automobiles at a race. The system determines statistics about the automobiles and enhances a video presentation of the race.
