Unit for rolling pipes on a mandrel

An apparatus is described for adjusting the position of rolls (9) in stands with two working rolls for longitudinal rolling mills, in particular for rolling seamless tubes, with hydraulic capsule directly connected to the chock (8) of each roll bearing, wherein said capsule comprises a movable piston (2) and stationary parts (1, 3). At one end of said piston (2) there is provided a shaped axial element (12) for the engagement into a corresponding undercut groove (18) of said chock (8) to balance the own weights and take up the end plays along the capsule axis. Such an apparatus is preferably associated with a device for detecting the relative position between piston (2) and stationary parts (1, 3) by means of a transducer (7) in an out-of-center position with respect to the axis.

The inventive relates to a rolling unit (5) for rolling rod-shaped or tubular bodies, such as pipes, hollow sections bars, wires etc. The unit (5) is provided with three or more working rolls (20) which have respective rotation axes (A1, A2, A3) lying in a perpendicular plane to a rolling axis (L) along which the unit (5) is disposed. Advantageously, the rolls (20) are mounted on corresponding swinging arms arranged to oscillate in respective planes, perpendicular to the rotation axes (A1, A2, A3) of the corresponding rolls (20) and containing the rolling axis (L). Such a rolling unit can prevent any uncontrolled thermal expansions induced in the swinging arm by the high temperatures sometimes involved in the process, by keeping the rolls in a symmetrical position with respect to the plane of oscillation of the respective arm.

A rolling stand includes a roller-carrier substantially in the form of a ring-shaped body having the rollers journalled on its interior; the roller-carrier is slidable along a longitudinal rolling axis L between an operative position occupied during the rolling process, where it is locked inside an outer structure of the rolling stand, and a non-operative position where it is removed from the structure. Provided within the rolling stand are guide means for guiding the roller-carrier movement along the axis L and means of locking the roller-carrier in the operative position.
