A method of joining two portions of an underwater pipeline for conducting fluid and/or gas on the bed of a body of water, the method including the steps of: joining a telescopic sleeve, having a first coupling head, to a first end of a first pipeline portion above the body of water; positioning the first end, the telescopic sleeve, and the first coupling head in a first given position on the bed of the body of water; joining a second coupling head to a second end of a second pipeline portion above the body of water; positioning the second end and the second coupling head in a second given position, close to the first coupling head, below the body of water; and connecting the first and second coupling head hermetically below the body of water.

A reversible mechanical coupling to be clamped in a suitable seat by means of clamping levers and wedges, in which the clamping levers are pivoted to arms rigid with said wedges by two lateral pivots which are inserted through vertical slots in said arms and are retained at the lower end of said slots by the narrow but forcible mouth of springs of tuning-fork shape mounted in correspondence with said slots, said clamping levers being also provided with laterally projecting pegs which are inserted in suitably shaped guides provided in protection casins interposed between the clamping levers and fixed to the coupling body.

Reversible mechanical coupling, particularly for tensional anchorages

A flexible structure of controlled yieldability for use as a hydrocarbon drilling and production platform in deep seas, or as a mooring point for oil tankers, constituted by a foundation base assembly, a vertical cylindrical tubular element placed under tension by a buoyancy chamber disposed at its top in proximity to the water surface, and an overlying lattice which at its top supports the plant platform. The tubular element is connected at its lower end to the base and at its upper end to the buoyancy chamber by means of suitable profiled tapered terminal elements able to withstand the bending loads which are generated at said connections. The entire structure is constituted by four separate pieces, namely the foundation base assembly with the lower terminal element, the lower half of the cylindrical tubular element, the upper half thereof, and the upper buoyancy chamber which is connected at one end to the upper terminal connection element and at the other end to the top lattice. For transportation purposes, these four pieces are assembled telescopically in pairs. On final on-site installation, the telescopic tubular parts are connected together and to the respective profiled terminal elements by mechanical clamps which restore complete structural continuity along the entire axis of the structure.

A reversible mechanical coupling for tensional anchorages includes a cylindrical body having a widened portion of conical shape capable of causing a set of clamping levers to be radially expanded by pivoting around a lower linking ring controlled to move coaxially with the cylindrical body by a first set of oleodynamic cylinders supported by the cylindrical body. The clamping levers are kept in contact with the body by springs, and are in mechanical interference, in their expanded position, with a conical surface provided in the seat for the coupling. A set of vertical guides is for provided on the upper portion of the cylindrical body for guiding a set of wedges pivoting around an upper linking ring controlled to move coaxially with the cylindrical body by a second set of oleodynamic cylinders supported by the body.
