Method and apparatus () for measuring a manufacturing deviation in an external gear (). The gear is arranged onto a stationary central pin (), the external diameter of which is smaller than the internal diameter of the gear so that a relative movement between the gear and the pin is allowed; a coupling member (), preferably including a head () that does not rotate and is adapted to fit into the teeth of the gear, is urged with a predetermined strength against the teeth of the gear in order to mesh with the teeth and concurrently bring an internal lateral surface of the gear into engagement with an external lateral surface of the pin. The position of the central axis (A) of the gear is determined and the manufacturing deviation of the gear is determined as a function of said position. The deviation so determined can be corrected as a function of a reference distance (D) indicative of the radial dimensions of the gear.

Method and apparatus for measuring a manufacturing deviation in an external gear

A universal dynamic gear quality and consistency verification inspection system and method is provided. The system and method provides a dynamic gear verification inspection station including a Double Flank master gear and a probe for inspecting gear features and an electronic plug having pre-reference pads and mechanical rests for supporting and locating the part to be inspected. The probes are provided to verify all angles and functional parameters relayed to appropriate software for evaluation and record maintenance. A probe may also be provided for face checking.

A touch probe with an arm () coupled to a movable arm-set () supported in a casing () includes an electric switch () with a housing () fixed to the casing and a mechanical transmission device () for mechanically transmitting displacements of the arm, and causing the disengagement of a conductive small ball () from two stationary conductive bars (), thereby opening an electric detecting circuit. At the interior of the probe casing, a sealingly closed chamber houses the switch and is filled with inert gas, for example nitrogen, for protecting the electric contacts.

A touch probe is provided with an arm coupled to a movable arm-set and supported in a casing. The touch probe includes an electric switch with a housing fixed to the casing, and a mechanical transmission device for mechanically transmitting displacements of the arm, and causing the disengagement of a conductive small ball from two stationary conductive bars, thereby opening an electric detecting circuit. An elongate mechanical body of the mechanical transmission device includes a spherical-shaped element that is transversally urged against a guide surface, having at least a binary surface, for guiding with accuracy and free of clearances the displacements of the elongate mechanical body. A bent flat spring contacts a plane portion of the spherical transmission element for achieving both transversal thrust against the guide surface and the antirotation of the elongate mechanical body.

A head for the linear dimension checking of mechanical pieces, including a casing that defines a longitudinal geometric axis, an arm&mdash;set movable with respect to the casing, a feeler coupled to the movable arm&mdash;set for touching the piece to be checked, a biased device arranged between the casing and the movable arm&mdash;set for urging the movable arm&mdash;set into contact with the casing, a detecting device coupled to the casing, including a movable element and a transmission device between the movable arm&mdash;set and the movable element of the detecting device. In order to reduce the frictions and improve the repeatability of the head, the transmission device includes a wire substantially rigid in a longitudinal direction but flexible in the direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. The wire has a first end coupled to the movable arm&mdash;set and a second end for cooperating with the movable element of the detecting device.
