The present invention relates to a novel composition for waterproofing leather, hides and/or pelts comprising a carboxyl-functional polysiloxane or an epoxide-functional polysiloxane and a polymer dispersion that contains 2 to 35 weight % of carboxylic groups, preferably a polyacrylate dispersion, to obtain leather that has a good water resistance according to ISO DIN EN ISO 5403-2 and DIN EN ISO 5403-1.

Composition and process for waterproofing leather

A process for the production of fat-liquored, tanned leather or pelt is provided. The process comprises the steps of fat-liquoring and tanning, wherein an animal hide, skin or pelt is fat-liquored with a substituted acylaminopolyorganosiloxane (A) in the presence of a surfactant or surfactant mixture (B), which is an anionic or nonionic surfactant or mixture of anionic or/and non-ionic surfactants, before, during or/and after tanning, wherein the substituted acylaminopolyorganosiloxane (A) is a polyorganosiloxane containing substituted acylamino groups linked to silicon atoms of the polysiloxane skeleton via alkylene bridges or mono- or oligo-[alkylene-amino or alkylene-(substituted acyl)amino]-alkylene bridges. Also provided are tanned pelt or leather, certain substituted acylaminopolyorganosiloxanes (A') and related processes and compositions.

Fat-liquoring

Tanned leather, skin or pelt is produced by non-metal tanning, comprising the step of tanning a bated hide, skin or pelt with a tanning agent (A), the tanning agent (A) being a sulfo-group-containing dichloro-diazine selected from compounds of formula (I), (II), (III) and mixtures of two or more thereof,   wherein R1 signifies hydrogen, methyl, methoxy, benzoyl, naphthoyl, mono- or di(C-alkyl)-aminocarbonyl, C-alkoxy-carbonyl or oxy-mono- or oligo-C-alkyleneoxy)-carbonyl, R&#x2014;(SOM)signifies a radical of formula (a) or (b), wherein Rsignifies hydrogen, C-alkyl or C-alkoxy, m is 1 or 2, n is 1 or 2, and M signifies hydrogen or an alkali metal cation or an ammonium cation, the ammonium cation being a protonated tertiary amine or a quaternary ammonium cation, in a tanning bath, the tanning bath having a pH of from 6 to 10 at the beginning of tanning step.

Non metal tanning

Tanned leather, skin or pelt is produced by non-metal tanning, comprising the step of tanning a bated hide, skin or belt with a tanning agent (A) of at least a mixture of compounds of formula (I) and formula (II), wherein Hal signifies fluorine or chlorine, R1 signifies hydrogen, C-alkyl or an alkyleneoxy radical of formula (III), &#x2014;(&#x2014;Calkylene-O&#x2014;)&#x2014;H (III); R2 signifies a) phenyl, mono- or di-substituted with SOM or COOM and optionally substituted also with hydroxyl, C-alkyl C-alkoxy; b) naphthyl, mono- or di- or tri-substituted with SOM and optionally substituted also with hydroxyl; c) C-alkylene, substituted with (SOM) or (COOM); d) aradical of formula (IV), &#x2014;(&#x2014;Calkylene-O&#x2014;)&#x2014;Y (IV) or e) a radical of formula (IVa) &#x2014;(Calkylene-O)&#x2014;Calkylene-SOCH2CHO&#x2014;Y (IVa), M signifies 1 or 2, p signifies 0 or 1, Y signifies hydrogen or &#x2014;SOM, q signifies 1 to 10, M signifies hydrogen, an alkali metal cation or an ammonium cation being aprotonated tertiary amine or a quaternary ammonium cation, R3 signifies hydrogen or chlorine. In a tanning bath having a pH of from 6 to 10 at the beginning of tanning step.

Non-metal tanning process

Tanned leather, skin or pelt is produced by non-metal tanning, comprising the step of tanning a bated hide, skin or pelt with a tanning agent (A), the tanning agent (A) being at least one compound of a formula (I), wherein X signifies fluorine or chlorine, and/or (NR), wherein R is a substituted or unsubstituted Cto Calkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted Cto Caryl or a Cto Cheteroaryl group, R1 signifies hydrogen, C-alkyl or an alkyleneoxy radical of a formula (Ia), -(&#x2014;Calkylene-O&#x2014;)&#x2014;H (Ia), R2 signifies hydrogen or hydroxyl, m, signifies 1, 2 or 3, q is of from 1 to 10, M signifies hydrogen or an alkali metal cation or an ammonium cation, being a protonated tertiary amine or a quaternary ammonium cation, in a tanning bath having a pH of from 6 to 10 at the beginning of tanning step.
