An electrical device including a heat sensing interrupter to enable a load to be selectively coupled to or disconnected from a power source in accordance with a level of a sensed temperature includes a relay assembly operable between a closed state when the sensed temperature is below a predetermined limit temperature, thereby enabling the coupling of the load to the power source, and an open state when the sensed temperature is above the predetermined limit temperature, thereby electrically disconnecting the load from the power source. The device further includes a sensor assembly including a light source operatively associated with a light sensor. The light sensor is configured to be sensitive to specific levels of the sensed temperature and the light source is configured to emit light along a plurality of optical paths at any one of a plurality of wavelengths sensitive to temperature. The light sensor is further configured to sense temperature at any one of a plurality of operating points on the electrical device and trigger the relay assembly between the closed state and the open state.

Electrical fire prevention from over-temperature conditions

An electrical device including a heat sensing circuit interrupter to enable a load to be selectively coupled to or disconnected from a power source in accordance with a level of a sensed temperature includes a relay assembly operable between a closed state when the sensed temperature is below a predetermined limit temperature, thereby enabling the coupling of the load to the power source, and an open state when the sensed temperature is above the predetermined limit temperature, thereby electrically disconnecting the load from the power source. The device further includes a sensor assembly including a light source operatively associated with a light sensor. The light sensor is configured to be sensitive to specific levels of the sensed temperature and the light source is configured to emit light along a plurality of optical paths at any one of a plurality of wavelengths sensitive to temperature. The light sensor is further configured to sense temperature at any one of a plurality of operating points on the electrical device and trigger the relay assembly between the closed state and the open state.

An electrical receptacle has an outlet and senses the operating temperature and automatically turns off when the temperature rises above a predetermined threshold. The receptacle has a reset button that must be manually operated to enable operation of the outlet to resume.

Heat sensing electrical receptacle

A temperature sensitive circuit interrupting arrangement includes a temperature controlled relay that will open to disconnect a load, such as a common household appliance or utensil, from a power source when the amount of heat produced by any one of a plurality of electrically conductive items coupling power from the power source to the load causes a sensed temperature to rise above a pre-determined safety limit temperature. The rise in the sensed temperature may be due to a poor (resistive) contact, an over-current condition due to a malfunction of the load, or other common causes. The circuit interrupting arrangement may be incorporated in many forms of electrical devices including male plugs, female sockets, switches, dimmers, multi-outlet power strips, power cords, and ground fault interrupters.

Temperature controlled circuit interrupter

An electrical safety device is provided with a heat responsive relay adapted to be interposed between a load and a power source. The relay is adapted to open circuit in response to a predetermined temperature. A heater element responsive to the opening of the relay is shunted across the relay. When the relay opens, power is shunted to the heater for maintaining the relay at least at the predetermined temperature thereby holding the relay open while the load remains connected to said power source.

In a preferred embodiment, a commercial dry-cleaning or pressing apparatus has a perforated horizontal substrate with a heated pressing iron pivotably mounted thereon for lowering onto and pressing a garment positioned on the upper face of the perforated substrate, the perforated horizontal substrate having perforations therein through which water vapor is passed from a mixing chamber in which pressurized outside air is admixed with pressurized water vapor after pressurized water vapor is passed through a vapor-pump-outlet inclusive of a restricted vent of a water-vapor collecting chamber from enclosed water-vapor space thereof, above heated water having a water-vapor producing transducer therein within an enclosed water-containing vessel also enclosing the water-vapor collecting chamber thereabove, with a water-vapor pressurizing pump with an outside-air intake and feeding air into the water-vapor collecting chamber and concurrently pressurizing an outgoing mixture of air and water vapor from the water-vapor collecting chamber, and a water-vapor thermostat within the water-vapor collecting chamber controlling when the water-vapor pressurizing pump turns on and off alternately, and heating elements with a heating-elements thermostat being within water of the water-containing vessel controlling when the heating elements are turned on and off alternately, and water-vapor sealed water-overflow device within the water-containing vessel, the heating element thermostat being adjacent the water-overflow device, and the heating elements, the water-vapor pressurizing pump and the transducer each having separate on-off switches concurrently alternately activatable and deactivatable by the heating-element thermostat, and the water-vapor switch being connected in series with said transducer off-on switch and the heating-element thermostat, and the heating element switch and the transducer switch being connected in parallel to the heating element thermostat, and the water-enclosing vessel receiving water through a conduit from a larger water-heating tank having a water-tank thermostat controlling the temperature of water within the water-tank water.
